Damn. My heart sank to my stomach when I saw that rocky had vacated. He has been one of my favorite posters ever since my earliest days at RS.com. He's one I consider a valued friend and one of the select group of posters who make this place worth participating in. It breaks my heart that he has chosen to leave, and since he hasn't really chimed in here on this particular board I don't have a clue as to why he's gone.
I just hope he'l come back.

I hope this mess doesn't spell the end of these boards. That would be a real shame. And not that PEW is the only problem that might need to be addressed, but he is a significant part of it. Let's ban him so we'll have one less thorn we need to pull from the board's side to get that spirit of fraternity back.

What I've been seeing is a hugh pissing contest with this guy who pressed the wrong buttons with people until the shit just went on and on and on and on and on. Seems like all it took was the slightest provoking comment from him and 1/2 a dozen people leapt on it to no end. Now it's all boiling up to the need for new leadership as that the problem was the dude was allowed to go on too long here ---- would have been more interesting (IMO) to see what may have happened if he just would have been ignored and perhaps left to wither and die on his own.

I may be missing the boat here but SO much of the ranting and raving I've read developed more out of conversational remarks PEW made that went against popular (and often, logical) opinion. To be honest, I spend more time skipping the reading of the retalitory posts to his one boner statement and THAT'S what the bummer is to me.

Man,,,,I'm not picking sides or defending the dude --- just that from all sides, it's goddamn tiring.........

I'm not normally a fan of deleting posts or boards, but perhaps this particular thread should be consigned to the dustbin - like it never existed.

There's shoots of promise elsewhere on the site (Random10 has had traffic today) - perhaps we need to springclean out the deadwood so we've got a healthier place to restart from.

Personally, I wanted PEW gone in the beginning, simply because he once again proved himself to be the troll he was previously. I know why he wasn't banned immediately: because of requests sent to Strat-0 to allow him to remain while people "had fun" with him. He did bring about a lot of discussion, most of it being of negative nature. I'm just glad he's finally gone.

I know Strat-0 won't say it, but I will: Castaways isn't "his" board. It never was, nor will it ever be. Castaways belongs to everyone who has ever been a member here, and will belong to everyone who will become a member in the future. The spamming, the trolls, etc., that had made the old RS boards a pain in the ass to maneuver has been something he has tried to avoid. I, for one, think he's done a pretty damned good job, even though it really does take up a lot of time that could be spent in others ways... primarily with me! haha

I certainly hope that those people who have deleted their accounts and those who are still members but no longer post will come back, and soon.

Now... back to the "real world" of Castaways! What's the "best" board right now???

Interesting how the meaning, the true heart of the term vive le differance, evolves as the 'wrong' people eventually rub us the wrong way.

We together defined it to eject PEW...who was wrong in lots of ways.
Worse, far worse was that at the same time he was also FALSE as a 3 dollar bill.

And the recent account deletions were the effect of others telling someone, that vive le differance was simply not broad enough, whereas Phil (for one) apparently wanted it to be conveniently narrow.

Interesting.

FWIW, nobody had to leave, they simply chose to move on. I heard from Phil, he's simply not interested anymore. Regardless what some people think of him, he remains one of the closest people that I like to refer to as a friend. If I ever have the chance to travel and meet up with RS-posters I'd love to sit in his garden, drink calvados and listen to Zappa. There's no blame to lay here, if people feel they have to leave, then that's it.

I'm also sad to see Rocky go but I think it is more a Sedaka-thing than anything else.

I didn't vote on the PEW-thing, I'm glad that there is now one less board I encounter him on.

FTR, Rocky didn't tell us he was going to and we've never pressured or asked anyone to delete their account or stop posting here. I'm not how it's a "sedaka thing" since most of us are still active over here.
