Yeah, we've had this convo before...or a similar one, regarding the bus-bus-train type of 'serial conveyance' commute you do...and oh yeah, it would be a pain in the ass I'd imagine...when driving in just isn't practical.
You guys have just the one car, is it?
Re the rudeness factor, I think(as with many things)it comes down to there being so MANY people squashed into a small(er) space and the instances of thoughtlessness happening are going to unavoidably increase. The sample space there is huuuge. The nature of the beast.
Urban Chicago useta be totally manageable when I was a kid there in the 60's and now(after Reagan gutted the mental health system and expelled 'the loonies' onto the streets)there's rudeness AND there real dangers there as well if you're going somewhere while not paying atention to what's going on around you. Being oblivious is not an option.
NOT that you've got to be spinning 360s with your head constantly, but watch, look, be smart...
~
Very cool looking house there, Riley, BTW!
Great that you kept as many of those trees out front too....escape hatch from those bears, eh? ;D
Oh wait! THEY climb trees too...um...
A big-ass .45 then. THAT's what you need.

Great places to live everyone! Ueb- very impressed with your place as well! What an improvement on your previous digs, right? Especially the description of your posters and pictures- very much in awe of your taste there! I made some pics of the posters and framed pictures in my place- this is currently the view in my computerroom/guestroom, where I am typing this now:

Pictures in my kitchen! Had to move the table away to show the full Aragorn... ...and this is hanging in my livingroom- like you I do like Van Gogh...! Got many posters hanging in the toilet as well, from Fantomas, U2, Elvis Presley and Tool to Akira, Mad Max and Ali...

That Zappa poster rocks. I'm excited about getting our house, because it means that I get to break the Iron Maiden poster out of the storage unit, and Eddie will rise again!

Maarten - Wow...thanks. And your posters are super cool especially the Lisa Gerrard Duality composition. Where in the world did you get that?
Riley - Again, wow. Your house is beautiful.

I got the Duality-print off eBay for only 10 US-dollars; it is signed by Lisa and Pieter Bourke.
Bought the Zappa and Waits in a little shop in Melbourne's Elizabeth Street- they are handmade posters by artists, commemorating special concerts in Australia. They have a nice collection there with artists going as far back as to the sixties and seventies- there were some colourful prints from Grateful Dead, AC/DC, R.E.M., Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, Ben Harper and many more. Love to get back there and pick a few more up.

I have been buying shirts left and right off of there lately. Some sweet Hole stuff, Jars of Clay, and just snagged a Janet Velvet Rope (last relevant cd) for 3.25, gotta love it.
(I am kinda a t-shirt fanatic)

I've had nothing but bad experiences with e-bay. Stay away from that place, I do. Fuckers have screwed me out of albums and t-shirts, and when I do ever get anything, it takes so long that I don't fucking want it anymore by the time I get it.

Really? I have had all great experiences (cept one, but that was really my fault) The last shirt I bought I got in two days. Even bought my kitchen table and chairs there. Do you check out the sellers history first?

Well, first couple times I didn't, but the last few times I did. I dunno, I mean, everyone else on planet earth seems to use the thing without much trouble, yet I've just had some crappy experiences. May end up back there someday.

And I'm sure that a lot of the reason it took forever to get a few things was because it was all coming from Canada. But still, I'm impatient when it comes to fun stuff in my mailbox.

LOL! That’s understandable, I know that when I bought my “Free Courtney” shirt (not from EBay) the girl in charge had to be about ready to fly to my house and kick my ass I bugged her so much about the delay. Has anybody here tried out “freecycle.com”, that place is cool, but you have to live on there if you want to get anything decent, the stuff goes fast.

Okay, here's the wee little house my girlfriend and I are buying so we don't have to rent for three or four more years while ekul finishes his schooling and then gets a big boy job out of town somewheres. It's two bed, two bath, we're putting new floors in it, painting, doing the cabinets, all that type stuff. We plan on ripping up all those nasty bushes and doing a lot of gardening in the front...the finished product will look much better.
