Hello. So i've got a new pad in the city i have to move into. The bedrooms are MASSIVE, the living room is tiny, the kitchen is a good large size, and the bathroom is average.
The flooring in the kitchen and bathroom is tile, the rest of the house is hardwood. It's an old flat, but spacious and fights claustraphobia - except for the living room which is 7 x 9, give or take a bit from each.
My bedroom has two red walls, and two white walls, i feel like Jack White sittin in there. It also has an old sealed up fire place with a wood mantle.
I was curious as to how to set up this little tiny living room so it would be comfortable while not being cluttered and uncomfotable.
Also we noticed mouse shit in a few drawers in the kitchen and underneath the counter. Any tips to solve this problem really well?
So any decorating tips etc would be good. My new pad is going to rock.

Congrats on the new pad, Shane! Good idea for a board, too! Also we noticed mouse shit in a few drawers in the kitchen and underneath the counter. Any tips to solve this problem really well? Here's the best solution: But you're a little too far for Cassie Wassie to go out on loan. Short of that, the old reliable break-the-back traps work pretty well!

Do mice of have sense of smell to recognize if a predator live in a certain territory?

Shane -- yeah, mice know when there are dogs or cats in an area. I've found that terriers (of almost any breed) make for great mice deterents. In twenty years of owning pit bulls, I've never found a mice in or around my house. When I was a kid, we had a dachsund who was an excellent mouser -- she'd catch 'em and leave 'em lying in the hallway or in the kitchen. One day my sister's gerbil got loose, and that dachsie was right there to catch the mouse! My sister was sooooooo pissed!

That'd cost you a million quid over here Straw, unless you were buying up North. You wouldn't believe how little bang for our buck we get in England, where they stack us up nice and tight in our little rabbit hutches.

You'd pay quite the pretty penny for that house in Toronto, too. Gorgeous place, straw. My humble abode - taken when we closed the deal last May. The ugly curtains on the windows are so outta there now - as are the plastic chairs out front. Hard to believe it's been almost exactly a year since we moved in.

Nice place Tunes. What about the boat? Did the previous owners leave that for you?

Living in this one bedroom apartment right now, one of the nicer complexes in town. Living room is the only place for computer, entertainment center, CD shelf, couch, etc.
Some nice decorating in here...girlfriend got a few pieces of new furniture before she moved in (she's been here since December, I didn't "officially" move in until May.) On the walls, lessee, we got a framed Friday the 13th poster, the two hundred dollar Scarface picture thing that my mother bought me, her diploma, bunch of pictures of us.
Dining area is a small black table with a white top, black chairs, framed Nightmare Before Christmas picture, framed evil dead poster, a black bookshelf and some black shelves with some nerdy stuff like statuettes of gargoyles goblins and stuff.
Kitchen's small but effective, I guess.
Bedroom...oh blah, I need to move on, I'm even boring myself here.
But anyway, we just bought a new place. A nice little house, we figure that since we'll be here for at least four or five more years, there's no sense in renting anymore. We're putting a few thousand into it- new floors, painting everything, doing the cabinets- and we'll be in there by November. It'll be great, because it's two bed, two bath, and big enough for us to get rid of our storage shed and decorate a lot more.

Congrats, luke - that's good news. We had been renting for just over three years when we bought our house last year, and when I almost died when I worked out that we had spent over $50,000 in rent in three years. Sick. But your new place sounds nice.
The only thing we had to do to our place was paint, seeing as how the old owners were really, really careful with everything and took fantastic care of the place. All new windows, doors, furnace, a/c, bathroom, etc. But the master bedroom was purple, the living room and dining room were peach, the girl's bedroom was bright pink and the boy's bedroom was an incredibly bright, obnoxious turquoise - and textured, which made repainting a real bitch.
But god, I'd hate to go back to renting now. Even if I'll be like 200 before we pay off our mortgage.

I hate to say it Shane, but if you really have mice, warfarin's the thing if you really want to get rid of them. There used to be a product on the market called "Mouse Treat" - don't buy that - they mean that label literally. The mice'll chow it all down and come back for more.
Also - learned this the hard way when I was a student - don't buy a rat trap when what you really wanted was a mouse trap. Damn near lost a thumb setting one of those off accidentally. And the mice loved it - they could clean it out without setting the damn thing off.
