I totally forgot about Johnny Shines and Willie King. Shines was a contemporary of Robert Johnson's, and played with him. He sounds a lot like him. I used to go hear him at festivals, and at this little sandwich-and-beer dive the Mojos started out playing at called "The Bearly Earl." (But everybody says, "Bearly Earl's") I used to talk with him at his table when he was on break. He eventually had a stroke and couldn't play guitar anymore, but still sang (he brought in this hot white boy, Kent Duchane, to back him up). PBS produced a good show on him.
Willie King is like a second generation blues player, but he's still doing rooty blues. I've backed him up, and he sat in with the Mojos. His talent is somewhat limited, though. He's also kind of an asshole. Actually doesn't really even rate an honorable mention on this thread.

I've had the opportunity to meet more famous people then I have for the simple reason that I don't have anything to say. Most of those guys don't need any more people telling them "you rock". I'm okay to hang back.
I also met Rivers and Pat from Weezer, both very nice.

I met poet Miller Williams 2 years ago when I interviewed him for an article. The father of Lucinda Williams lived 5 minutes from my previous apartment and I never knew it. He was awesome. So was his study room: shelves lined with books, memorabilia and autographed photos from so many celebrities and politicians from the last 30-40 years. I wanted to do an article on just that fucking room.

Strat! Lee Oskar?
I dunno, seems like I've had a lot of luck 'running into' the rich and famous over my time here. Worked for six years (in the early 80s) at the health club in Chicago where all the politicians and business heavyweights here were members...or brought in as friends of members. Not that Illinois and Chicago politicians would mean something to most folks here. I met a couple of Governors and a couple of Mayors. The current mayor, Richie Daley, actually would sit down and talk with me for like a half hour at time when he was Illinois State's Attorney and I was a life gaurd at the pool LOng story short - one of lifeguards had been killed and he basically would keep me up on the case...and we'd talk other stuff. But he was very cool for someone who's Dad was also the mayor of Chicago for like all of my life, from 1955 til 1976...and this musta been like '82. His family casts a long shadow here. Show biz folks I actually spoke to...Jim Belushi (very nice guy when he was still a nobody and I think his bro was still alive), Peter Noone (Hermans Hermits' frontman. Now HE was a prick...'I am so NOT a faded star' seemed to be the attitude)...Maud Adams (one time '007/Bond-girl'....very tongue-tied me she ws SO gorgeous)....
Passing by, making me double-take: Madonna Rod Stewart Adrian Belew several others...

man, looks like a few of us could start a 'Belew Club', me Ayinger & RocDoc at least.
hey strat, where's Wholi when we need him ? I wish he'd pull up on that badass motorcycle he used to cruise around here with.
Thas cool you met George Clinton's mom, ded. Reminds me, I did meet all the members of boy hits car, @ their last show in Hollywood a couple aprils ago. There I met lead singer Cregg's Mom (one of the most intense club shows I've ever seen).
& of course I've met up and hung out with (at their shows) the members of dredg at least half a dozen times, now. I still feel dredg is the brightest star on the musical horizon (in rock terms I guess).

So I'm hanging out in this lodge with a handful of wealthy film business busy bodies. This place is utterly bizarre. I don't know how many animals were killed to decorate it, seriously. It's a tomb. A polar bear guards the main landing at the top of the stairs. (I think these pepes from Cell-u-loid Dreams find it all as laughable as I do, but they paid 17 grand for the week.) I'm going to grab some wigs from my car and take a picture with the bear later on. There are several pool tables, a bar, a gym, and lots of people coming and going and arguing about the price of films. If any one hears about a film coming out in Europe in a few years called "My Pleasure," I chose the title. More on celebs later. Just had to pop in.
