Randomly came across this Wordsworth quote from 1802 in a book today. "....The human mind is capable of being excited without the application of gross and violent stimulants; and he must have a very faint perception of its beauty and dignity who does not know this, and who does not further know, that one being is elevated above another, in proportion as he possesses this capability . . . A multitude of causes, unknown to former times, are now acting with a combined force to blunt the discriminating powers of the mind, and unfitting it for all voluntary exertion to reduce it to a state of almost savage torpor. the most effective of these causes are the great national events which are daily taking place, and the increasing accumulation of men in cities, where the uniformity of their occupations produces a craving for extraordinary incident, which the rapid communication of intelligence hourly gratifies. to this tendency of life and manners the literature and theatrical exhibitions of the country have conformed themselves." Now...... Forgive me, I've got something to say about this. This is true, I wholeheartedly believe. I can't care anymore, because there is too much to care about that is too far beyond my control. There are too many people, there is too much stimulation, and our society bombards us with instant gratification messages so thick and fast we can't do anything but shut down and be sheep. It has gone so far beyond bizarre and unnatural we are unsure of how to be human anymore. I remember being human and how pleasurable it was. Being five, and living simply. It wasn't necessarily a happiness borne of ignorance; I think as children we understand intuitively a lot more than we give ourselves credit for in the cold light of adulthood. I knew all I needed to know. That I loved people. That I wanted to understand and explore and be satisfied. Now I beat my head against corporate and government walls in a frenzy trying to regain what I had with the grotesquely improper tools society has not only provided me with, but pretty much mandated that I use. I wonder what Wordsworth would say now..! =/ I think I know what you're saying, smaps, and I don't think there's too much bullshit to it. With the advent of the Internet and our global civilization it has become apparent to anyone with eyes to see that everything we thought we knew is wrong, everything we do know is wrong and everything we ever will know is wrong, insomuch as it distances us from who we were, who we are and who we want to be. Too much information. Every day we're offered proof, every which way we look, that nothing is real, that the world itself is an illusion and that the best we can hope for is an easy transition into the void from which we came... ...and hope that once in awhile we can stop along the way and enjoy the show. On this note, a few weeks ago I watched this documentary thing on Joe Coleman. He paints (really crazy gross stuff with lots of gore, death and vaginas...) and espouses the theory that sexually deviant critters and serial killers are really the only people contributing in a healthy way to Nature's plan. He believes these people were formed BY Nature for the purpose of population control, and anyone who thwarts the plan and continues to procreate and hold human life sacred above all else is actually Evil. Round of applause from an audience of one, here. Calling pro-lifers and non-serial-killers evil. Bahaha!

Gore, death and vaginas...holy trinity?
I don't think I can hang with Coleman's philosophy, though it looks to be quite interesting. No...can't do it.

Yeah, I'm pretty much alone with Joe on this one. He does seem to be rather a disturbed individual (vaginas terrify me!) but I have long thought along those lines of the world's problems mainly stemming from fear of death and the resulting overpopulation.

I fear dying but I don't fear death. That's being serious, not flippant.

JAC... Remember the woman who posts myspace statuses ending in "in the lord's name, amen" or whatever?
I think it must be a growing phenomenon. Some relative I've never met found me on Facebook a while ago, and now I'm becoming alarmed for her sanity. Today's seems harmless enough, but I've seen some close enough to "Thank you Jesus for making my husband's penis strong and long, I'm exhausted - in the lord's name AMEN!" to make me seriously question my own sense of reality.
Today's: "__________ is enjoying Peanut Butter Blossoms made by my children (Thanks to Tammy for the recipe). First time making cookies without fighting. Praise God."
And she voted for Ron Paul. Who ARE these people?

Metalocalypse is awesome. I need to pick up both seasons. All I've got now are a couple of videotapes I recorded from cartoon network.

Yes, it is. Awesome that is. I have SEason 1 on dvd, and I'll tell you what. I can pop that sucker in and push PLAY ALL and watch it all day, and not get tired of it. I don't know what it is about it, but that shit is funnee. I have not gotten the 2nd Season yet. Somehow, I suspect its schtick may have dropped down a notch; it couldn't possibly maintain such a consistency of spot-on humor, can it? I doubt it very much. So it is with some trepidation that I reach into my wallet for the $20 it will cost to acquire this shiny plastic thing. Don't let me down, Toki and friends ! I'm counting on you to deliver the goods.
Anyone here seen any of the 2nd season episodes? And can you tell me if the quality is consistent with the 1st season? I don't care if the answer is "It Sux Ass"; curiosity will force me to find that out for myself. I'll bet they hit the floor running with that shit. Can't wait to find out. . .
