Fuck you. I counted every fucking toothpick in the house last week and got through the first two pages of the phone book. I'll be fucked if I can remember any of the details. Is special needs the same as autistic. She always says I'm special needs.

How many toothpicks did you make it? I reckoned 363, but maybe you took a couple to work?
Are we banned from the desert island now, d'you think?

It's a matter of days really. How well do you swim?
I prefer to frolick in the water to actually swimming. Perhaps we'll just be kicked off the island into the adjacent shallow waters.

Ryosuke - excellent idea for a thread.
As for which 3 albums I'd bring to the desert island -- why that will be a difficult decision to come to.
So for starters, I will begin by posting my thought processes TOWARDS coming to a final, concluding list of 3 "Chosen Ones" as the Trinity of Discs that I bring.
#1: RAISON D'ETRE: I would more than likely want to bring one of this artist's dark/ambient works, primarily hoping that I would be the only one to bring Raison D'etre, feeling that 99% of my Castaways would end up being grateful that I did. The question becomes WHICH Raison D'etre album would I bring. Quite possibly "Lost Fragments", because it is a double-disc, hence making for a bonus. Plus we'd each be considered "lost fragments" ourselves, trapped out on a desert island. So LOST FRAGMENTS has a very high chance of being one of the 3 I would bring.
*Will return with more thoughts about this*

3 albums I'm sure no one would bring with him/her ... - Shut Up 'N Play Yer GuitarA 3 CDs collection of Zappa's best guitar solos ... - Sun Bear Concerts - Piano SoloA 6 Cds box of Keith Jarret's piano improvisations Six hours worth ... !! - Beethoven Nine SymphoniesWith the Berlin Philarmonic / Von Karajan ... Awesome Phil! My copy of "Shut Up 'N Play Yer Guitar" burned down in a House Fire 20 years ago! ( I can't believe it was that long ago...) That is an excellent, and most thoughtful, choice. I, too, would try and "second-guess" what everyone else would bring . . . hence: I would bring no TOOL. (And it looks as if I spied Riley bringin Aenima . . .so that works out well) I would love to bring something of ENO's . . . but I don't want to bring in too much ambient stuff . . .and the Raison D'etre would most likely be the one to represent that genre of music. (sorry Brian) But I very well could decide to bring one of Eno's first 4 solo albums . . . the trouble is, deciding on which one. MOst likely, I'd bring ANOTHER GREEN WORLD. I don't think I could leave home to get stranded on a desert island without it . . .

And the VON KARAJAN 9th! ! ! ! ! ! !
BRAVO!
I have that one . . . . and would DEFINITELY have considered bringing it . . .thinking I'd've been the only one! You most certainly have proved me wrong on that one! Awesome

what i'd go with...
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
for creepy nights in the middle of the trees or out on the beach. plus it reminds me of the wizard of oz. yay, wizard of oz!
R.E.M. - Out of Time
this isn't my favorite r.e.m. album, but i would want one of their records (great and gigantic discography, imo) and this is the one that i think has the best blend of musical approaches. mm, "texarkana", "shiny happy people" (i don't care how it gets ranked on worst songs lists), "low", "near wild heaven"...
The Clash - London Calling
yup, punk music can be quite diverse... just listen to the "only band that matters"! do i really need to go into detail on this? you know it, i know it. it just rocks. 19 tracks... delicious!

Are we banned from the desert island now, d'you think? You'd have to ask whoever has the authority to make such decisions. I sure as fuck don't want that kind of authority. Oh, and thanks for bringing OK Computer. I'm glad I kept it off my list

Oh, and Proud, I like "Shiny Happy People" too. The people who loathe that song can cut my penis off if they don't like me professing that, but it won't change my opinion. Plus, Out Of Time has my favorite REM song ever, "Country Feedback".

I don't want to castrate anyone, but "Shiny Happy People" would easily make any sensible list of the Worst Ten Songs Ever Recorded. But then, so would "Jimmy Jazz", so what do I know?

and i love "jimmy jazz".
i dunno, i just like music that makes me feel good. i guess people don't like songs that're a bit too happy or fun. *shrugs* their loss.

Well, if it's any consolation, I'm not exactly jumping up and down at the prospect of listening to Radiohead's "fitter/happier" on a balmy evening under the palm fronds either.

Sweet. So while we listen to that, you can do the dishes in the meantime!
Beethoven's Ninth by Von Karajan...that's my father's fave classical record...brings back heaps of memories.

The Cure can do no wrong! Although I must say that it would take me 14 replays of Inbetween Days or 8 replays of A Forest, or 6 replays of Pictures Of you or 5 times The Snakepit or 4 times The Same Deep Water As You to get my load of dishes done tonight.....
