I forgot all about the Erasure covers of Abba ... I'm pretty sure the EP was called Abbaesque or something along those lines. Great cover of Take a Chance on Me, as I recall ...

I swear you've got a big stash of Abba related resources to use just for these sorts of occassions.
Indeed ! It's called Google(images)search engine ... The one with the four of them in polyester pajamas was too big to post here but here's another good one... Po-Jama People! I wish they'd all go away! Hein nya-nya-hein nya-nya-hein nya-nya-hein Doesn't "Blondie" look absolutely thrilled with her pose ??

Mercifully, the Abba-BeeGees onslaught on the pop charts during the dreadful Disco era corresponded with a renaissance of the Québec francophone music scene ... so I was able to avoid the whole disaster and rejoin the melee only in the early 80's...

All in all, you just can't go wrong with the Abba divorce songs. Hey! That's 15 songs. Maybe I should sign up for Rocky's CD exchange afterall, and hope I get Phil's name. Too bad you posted this instead of just PMing me. I'd definately be down for rigging the whole thing in order to play a hilarious joke on Phil.

I'd hate to jump into the fray, but here goes. This is how I feel. The best thing for Madonna to do in order to try and recapture some of her popularity with the mainstream is to release an album like the one she's releasing. I haven't heard it yet, so I can't necessarily comment on it as a whole, but I really think it was her only choice in keeping up with what Madonna "is." Madonna is a pop artist who doesn't seem to want to say anything unless she knows the world is listening. She courted controversy time and time again for this very reason. She likes attention, thinks what she has to say is important, and she'll dumb her true desires down in order to get what she has to say to as many people as possible. When she appeared on "American Bandstand" many, many years ago she said, "I want to rule the world," and she wasn't kidding. Right here, right now, she's doing damage control after "American Life" and "Swept Away" and the whole Esther debacle. And from what I understand of the album, it's not as completely devoid of anything to say, just like "Music" wasn't completely devoid of anything to say. As a fan who has followed her work since the "Ray Of Light" days I can't help but notice how she does dumb her music down to play the mainstream game. Everything I know of what the woman cares about, religion, the world, her family, politics, etc., would be more "artistic" of her to talk about rather than "ring ring ring goes the telephone." It's cute, it's dancey, it's CLASSIC Madonna, but it's not the Madonna of now, and yes, her views, values, and beliefs are not mainstream, and as a fan, I wish she'd get over that and make records she really should make. I totally agree with your comments there Mat. That's what I hate about this whole new 'dance concept' thing. It's obviously done for damage control reasons after the American Life "disaster"... That new album doesn't sound interesting in the slightest. That review you posted mentioned that most songs are sampled other songs. Sometimes a sample can make a good song great, especially if you're not familiar with the original, but all the songs mentioned in that 'review' are well known hits. I suppose I just don't like hearing songs that'll only make me want to hear the originals, which was the case with that "Hung Up" tune. After that song's intro I expected to hear those Abba chicks kick in with the 1st verse and all I heard was something that sounded like a fucking Motorola ad. btw, Chrisfan, Dancing Queen rocks too! How can you call yourself an Abba fan and not like 2 of their finest singles? They're both better than that "Mama Mia" crap.

What I'd love to hear is Marilyn Manson's version of "Money, Money, Money". Especially the part where he'd sing... aaaahh,aaaaaah, all the things I could do, If I hate a little money...

Abba...ugh.
Here's more from Roy, who is the only person I have ever known who eats Spam straight out of the can, taking big bites out of the loaf, as if it were a big candy bar. He's also the only adult I have ever heard pronounce "Pringles" like this: "Pring-Os"...
~~~"I've got Satan's bug...I'm dying of AIDS."
~~~"I'm gonna drink me some toilet bowl cleaner. I'm gonna drink my cologne."
~~~Every day I suggest activities for Roy, all of which he disgustedly rejects. It has become a running gag for me to suggest a road trip to Ardmore, which is a couple of hundred miles south on the Oklahoma-Texas border. Today when I mentioned Ardmore Roy said, "There ain't nothin' down there in Ardmore for my white ass."
~~~"I'm gonna go live in a pumpkin."
~~~I noticed today that Roy was wheezing (probably from all the constant chain-smoking). I pointed this out to Roy, to which he replied, "I can't help it. I got AIDS." (No, Roy does NOT have AIDS)
~~~"I'm gonna call the police on my Aunt Glenda. She lied to me." (Roy pronounces it "Poe-Lease")
~~~"How about if I give you a chocolate pie with shaving cream on top of it?"
~~~""I'm gonna slap me a Chinese whore. I'll paint me a Mexican green-and-red striped."
~~~"I'll stick my hand in a tree-hole. What do you think I'll pull out? I'll pull out a snake, probably."
~~~When Roy checked his mail today there was, in his mailbox, one of those bulk advertisement letters from Geico. Roy walked in the house waving it around and said, "What's Geico doing sending me insurance? I don't have no damn car!"
~~~"I'm gonna play the devil's horn...the devil's trumpet."
~~~"I'm gonna piss off a bumble bee. Make it go over there and sting that dog. I'll say, 'Go get him, Buzz-Bee!' till that dog screams. He'll never know who sicced that bee on him! I'm gonna piss a spider off, too. What'll happen if I piss a spider off?"
~~~"I'm going to go to the Fitness Center and pull the Fire Alarm."
~~~"I want to hear a whole string of Black Cats go off. Two or three hundred of 'em!"

How are Roy's computer skills? Is there any way you might direct him to these boards? He sounds like quite a hoot.

I can't say I'm surprised. She once said she'd never sing "Material Girl" again and I watched her do it in concert a couple of summers ago. I guess I'll have to keep my thoughts to myself until I actually hear the album. Who knows? I could love it. I am the dude who's favorite Madonna song is "Die Another Day" even though most people think it's crap.
I get to thinking about it, and they said that Madonna was returning to her roots with "Music," and that certainly wasn't the case. Yeah, a few of the songs harkened back to those days, but songs like "Paradise," "Don't Tell Me," and "I Deserve It" remain some of my favorite Madonna songs of all time. And most people said American Life was shit, and once again, "Nobody Knows Me," "Easy Ride," and "Die Another Day," remain heavily played.
I just wonder how less of an album it's going to be than "Ray Of Light," which will be virtually impossible to top because that is her best album, ever.

I believe that is "Like A Virgin" Madonna said she will never perform again, although she did when she performed those "American Life" promotional "mini-concerts." I hope the new album is one of those kick the shoes off and dance around the house like a banshee albums.
