There's really nothing more pointless than talking to people about sports figures who they're obviously emotionally invested in.

Wade isn't even close to Jordan. Without Shaq, Wade would be a slightly improved version of Michael Redd. Don't get me wrong, he's really good, but he's nowhere near Jordan. No one in the NBA right now is close to Jordan, and Wade isn't even #1 in the league.

He's really a bigger Iverson circa '00 without the shooter's touch. Or a slightly smaller Kobe circa '00 with better passing skills.

Do you think it is an entertainer's responsibility to set a good example to the culture that allows them to be rich and famous? If so what kind of example is Jordan? A womanizer, a gambling addict and in general an egotistical and materialistic asshole? Especially compared to Wade? So in this aspect Wade is a better person--and I think in this day and age of Sports celebrity you have to factor that in when saying who is the better basketball player...I'm not saying that it should be the ONLy factor or even the MAIN factor. But Basketball is a business, it is a cultural phenomenon and that aspect of it, shouldnt be dismissed.... ...But that's just my opinion.

I was talking about how good of a basketball player he is. All of those other things can and should certainly be considered when talking about how good a person is, or what their total contribution was to the game, perhaps. But if you're talking about who is the better basketball player, then it doesn't make sense to consider anything other than how good they all are/were at playing basketball.

I personally prefer all of my sports idols, much like my music idols, to be good church-going Christians.

I personally prefer all of my sports idols, much like my music idols, to be good church-going Christians. So you dont think in this day and age, where grown men are paid MILLIONS of dollars to run around in their underwear chasing a bouncy ball that they dont have SOME responsibility to the culture that has provided them with this opportunity? To be a great basketball player not only means being a great phsyical athlete or being able to do great things on the basketball court.

I personally don't care what other grown men do with their time and money.
My favorite player is an evil, megolomaniacal analrapist. Doesn't change the fact that he's a complete badass on the court.

I don't see a problem with thinking less of someone as a person for any off the court transgressions. You can judge people or not judge people however you want. But it seems silly to consider off the court things when you're talking about how good a basketball player is, because those things have nothing to do with how good they are at the game.

How do we know Wade doesn't hit his girlfriend?

Because he probably has a boyfriend, not a girlfriend.
My step-mom subscribes to People, and when I lived with her and my dad, I'd flip through there sometimes. In last year's Most Beautiful People issue, or whatever it's called, Wade is profiled, and he talks all about his manicures and skin exfoliation treatments and stuff. I'm placing him under suspicion.

He'll still humiliate the shit out of you on the court, though.

Of course. I never said a gay dude couldn't kick ass at basketball.

I thought I'd seen it all on the Roe v. Wade board. Certainly, the rockjism discussions were semi-retarded. But to propose that Wade is as good as Jordan, at all, is so beyond retarded it's unbelievable.
I am shocked.
