I'm hoping this summer I can get out to Wrigley Field (never been; it's on the 'to do' list) and see the Nationals play the Cubbies.

One's first time at Wrigley is a life-altering event. Cherish it. It is without a doubt my favorite place on Earth.

On a related topic, I went to my first baseball game of the year last night. It was high school, Ocala Forest v. Gainesville. This is what it's all about, kids playing their asses off for the enjoyment of it, always hustling to first, hitting the cutoff man, laying out for a ball in the hole, just great stuff. Hopefully this year I'll be able to get over to Daytona to see the Cubs A-ball team a few times, something I've been trying to do for the past couple years.
You know, football is fine and dandy, but to me, nothing can beat baseball. It i truly the greatest sport.

I know a few people who think this exact same way...It's a cool sport IMO b/c it's not intantly gratifying like basket ball or even football; its all about patience. Watching playoff games in October is pretty intense, but in a cool different way than a buzzer beater during March Madness. By the way, for my 2 cents, the NCAA tournament is THE sporting event of the year.

I actually bought a stack of Cubs tickets for this year a few weeks ago, and one of the games I got tickets for is against the Nats. If you end up at that game, hit me up for a beer or something, dood.

...but you're in a town with the World champeens and you're from an American League city!
You've got a lot to answer to, Sigman!
That and why some of that money (a paltry 27 bucks to be precise) didn't go to getting a ticket to see Neko Case....priorities, priorities.
FWIW, I hope that the oversize overhanging bleachers that they're building at Wrigley don't fuck the place up...need to see the final product, but the proportions are definitely going to be a bit out of whack.
NOTHING beats sitting in the bleachers at Wrigley on a summer day.

NOTHING beats sitting in the bleachers at Wrigley on a summer day. Because I live a mile from Wrigley, and because I'm from an AL Central city, I'm certainly not going to go root for the White Sox. I'll head down to the south side to root for the Tigers when they're in town (and the Orioles too, as I'll probably be going to most of those games with my friend from Maryland), but otherwise I have no interest in watching the White Sox. They're a divisional rival, plus their stadium sucks ass. And my brother lives in the DC area (for another month at least), and last year all his jabbering about the Nationals got me interested in them. As for the money thing, I actually haven't paid for any of them yet. They're on a credit card belonging to a friend of mine who had to stand in line for all the tickets. I'll get around to paying him back once I have some money.

Oh, also I couldn't make up my mind between Neko and Bob Pollard, who is playing the same night.

Pollard, that guy who fired his band? There, I can see was a tough choice... And I suppose I can understand the intra-division thing too...even tho the Tigers have pretty much sucked balls anyway...ya sure you want to go to de Sout' Side to see 'em LOSE? ~ And Comiskey Park (the 'New Comiskey', not this corporate 'Cell' shit) is honestly not ½ bad as a park, I swear...

The Tigers actually, in the last few years, have had better records against good teams than they have against bad teams. They make a habit out of beating the Yankees 5 out of 6 times, but then losing the season series to the Royals. And I've been to the Cell (although not in several years). It sucks.

Based on...
OK, cool....if you say so.
In a similar vein....then the BEST sports venue in the city is Soldier Field...the revamp looks goofy as shit from the outside, but inside is state of the art...it sure seems (since I haven't sat in ALL the seats...yet) that football sightlines from anywhere in there would be perfect. It's like the old Chicago Stadium was converted to football....everyone seems to be right on top of the action.

I've been to 13 big league ballparks (some of them no longer in use, some current), and I think out of all of them, the only one that might be worse than the Cell is the old Cleveland Municipal stadium. Sorry, it's just a boring, boring ballpark, with nothing distinguishing about it whatsoever.
Never been to Soldier Field, but hopefully I'll catch a game there some day. Incidentally, I never went to a single Lions game either, so who knows how much of a priority I'll actually make it to get to a Bears game, but we'll see.

Well, here's the main thing for me. I'm a big baseball fan. I am not a Cubs fan or a White Sox fan, but a fan of the game (and the Tigers of course, but that's irrelevent to this discussion -- I'll be seeing the Tigers at both Wrigley and U.S. Cellular this year). So, so long as I'm going simply for the game and not for the team, then why not go to the ballpark that is a) much closer to home and b) a much nicer ballpark. The only thing that the Sox have going for them for me personally is that the tickets are most certainly cheaper. I'm sure I'll make it down to some games down there, but I just don't see a real reason to go to too many when I've got one of the great ballparks in the history of the game so close by.
