Head office from my work has forbidden me to support the Germans or the Portuguese as every team I individually supported in this WC has lost already. Henceforth I'm tipping a France-Italy-final.

Simeone play-acted and got Beckham red carded in 1998. Then they taunted all our disappointed players on the team coach after beating us on penalties. They're also sneaky, cheating, diving, cyncial, and dirty footballers. They also subjected a very young Brazil team to all sorts of racist abuse in the Copa America recently
As much as I'll always support the Argies out of latin loyalty, they certainly are a racist team, thats for sure. Its not just Argentina in sport though. Theres a massive undercurrent of racism in that country, I hate it. Though the term 'mestizo' (ie being a mix of Spanish/white & Sth American Indian) isn't really a label in Colombia as it is in Mexico, thats what half my family is. And 'natives' get a hard time in Argentina. It happens everywhere I know, but I hate it in Argentina because I've seen it there.
I accept diving & all the theatrical dramatics we see in football. A little well-placed simulation adds to the game. But when you're relying on it as a tactic? Thats not cool. But what can you do? At this level it ain't going away.

Ha!
Man U to sack Ronaldo: report Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo, criticised for his role in Wayne Rooney's sending off at the World Cup, won't be back at Manchester United and can expect payback from the star England striker in the future, according to a report.
Quoting an unnamed source, The Sun newspaper reported on Monday that Rooney threatened to "split him in two" when the two next meet. Ronaldo may be wearing a different uniform when that happens. The British tabloid says United will show Ronaldo the door "because of his World Cup shame."
Ronaldo, who has spoken of moving to Real Madrid, infuriated England players for his actions in United teammate Rooney's ejection on Saturday. After Rooney stamped on defender Ricardo Carvalho's groin, Ronaldo rushed to the Argentina referee to complain. When Rooney was shown the red card, moments after shoving Ronaldo, cameras caught Ronaldo winking - apparently at the Portugal bench. Rubbing salt in the wound, Ronaldo converted the penalty kick that sealed the Portuguese win.
Citing a top Football Association source, The Sun reported Rooney's rant came one day after the penalty shootout loss. "At breakfast in the hotel this morning, Wayne said he would split him in two and smack him in the head. Who can blame him?" the source told The Sun. "He is determined to settle the score in his own way and there is nothing anyone can do about it."
The newspaper also said Ronaldo had apparently joked before the game with Rooney that he would get him sent off.
The Sun has joined the anti-Ronaldo bandwagon, printing a mock dartboard with a picture of Ronaldo winking. "Here's every England fan's chance to get revenge on the world's biggest winker," the paper said.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, has denied asking the referee for a red card and said he was "very sorry" for Rooney.
"The English press say the referee gave a red card because I spoke (to him), but this is not true," Ronaldo is quoted as saying on Manchester United's official web site. "I said 'ref this is foul' but I did not say 'red card' because Wayne is my friend and I play at the same team as him."
Damn, what a shame! I was so looking forward to a report on the first training day at Manchester United!

wasn't it already preordained that Ronaldo was leaving Man U, even prior to the match?

from today's Guardian UK papers.....
Ronaldo: no rift with Rooney
'Between the two of us everything has been cleared'
There has been talk that Wayne Rooney plans to "split Cristiano Ronaldo in two" when he next sees him after the Portugal winger's apparent involvement in the red card Rooney was shown as Portugal defeated England in the World Cup quarter-final on Saturday. But Ronaldo himself says there is no ill feeling between the pair - Manchester United team-mates - and that they have been in contact since the end of the match

So let's see here, on the one hand we have the fairer skinned Argentinians (and fairer skinned South Americans as a whole) and then we have the dark-skinned Argies/South Americans. Racism definitely exists there. imo, it's because they feel inferior about their own statuses. they're caught in the nastiest of scenarios: they're technically white, but not white enough (in their eyes), and so this anxiety makes a racist attitude towards the darker-skinned Latinos virulent and deeply rooted.

CRonaldo may be a pathetic pretty boy diving priss, but he also absolutely torched the English side yesterday every time he had the ball at his feet. The Rooney send off was a bit touchy and obviously it'd be pretty interesting to see what role the push had in it. The bottom line is that the English penalties were poor at best -- starting with Lampard's final dump of the tourney -- and they had the chance to go ahead in the third round of takes and blew it. So the long wait continues. But yeah, sorry guys. Missed the second game on Saturday with what I'll just leave at a severe hangover. Was in such a bad place that I even forgot to record the game. Sorry Ken. Would have loved to see a Germany/Italy/England/France semifinals just for the historical implications alone. Don't know who I'm pulling for at this point. Probably the French for Zidane alone. Really anyone but the Italians.

As soon as Lampard went to place the ball I just KNEW. That penalty was saved before he even struck the ball.

France and Germany are both historical enemies and Italy are just corrupt and dull as fuck (in spite of the above-average manhunk squad ratio). As for Portugal - we won't even go there (PE No1) I'm at a loss and just don't care any more - guess I'll just spectrate as a neutral and hope that Ronaldo gets his legs broken at some point. The hatred for him in this country is massive - it's all anyone is talking about.

Yeah, me too. He looked rattled just walking up to the spot. He lost his confidence way back in the group stages. Probably a good thing him getting it over with - just didn't expect everyone else to miss too! Damnit...

Can't really blame him though (CRonaldo). It is the World Cup after all.
Haven't caught the wink yet though. Pretty scummy thing to do (the wink, not the ref-badgering), but that really shouldn't be all that surprising.

That said, I too hope he gets his payback at some point or another. ManU should keep him on for another year just to force him to play in the EPL every game.

I actually pointed the wink out at soon as he had done it. I was going nuts - quite scary really.
I dunno.. I can kind of understand why players dive to try and get a free kick in a vital area, or even to get a penalty - it's always happened, even if not to this extent. But to try and get a fellow professional and TEAM MATE sent off is just unforgiveable. He wasn't even involved. Disgrace.
I REALLY want him to at least train with Manu and get the shit kicked out of him. I hated him before the tournament, but I hate him tenfold now. He will go to Real though - no doubt about it. IF they will still have him, that is.

He would get so much shit from the fans - we can be an intimidating unforgiving lot. I think even the ManU fans would give him a pretty hostile reception.
