Alright, this is for everything basketball related: NBA, College, and even the European league.
So did anyone see the Nuggets last night w/ Melo and AI? Doesn't look like egos are getting in the way. I've always like Iverson, and I hope he and the Nuggets can go far.
Being in DC, one can't help but to [finally] get excited about the Bullets, er Wizards (dumbest name in all of sports). Agent Zero, Gilbert Arenas, is arguably the most exciting player to watch in the NBA.
On the college tip, Florida is looking good again! That would be it's still early to tell, but it looks like the SEC is theirs to lose. In the ACC UNC is the clear favorite, but my team, Clemson, is a surprising 18-2 and 4-2 in conference play.

You're right about Florida, Paul. SEC is having a down year. I was listening to some local guy on the radio this morning and he was picking them to go 8-4 the rest of the way in conference and wind up a 2-3 seed. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

I think Florida has a legitimate shot at being a Great 8 team this year (I don't like Elite 8). Really, there is no other team in the SEC that poses a real threat. Same in the ACC. UNC is the clear dominant team. VA Tech caught them off guard, and yes VA Tech is good this year, but UNC is crazy good. Plus they have a very talented and deep bench. I'm glad Duke is sort of down this year. I hate the freaking Blue Devils! Clemson plays them on Thursday night, and if they can pull off the upset, it will prove the Tigers are for real this year. That's odd for me to say....Clemson hasn't been a legitimate team since 1997.

Pretty common viewpoint in certain large segments of the black male community however.
But in his position, my god, he should have known to just pleeease shut the fuck up.
Being a 'straight-shooter' (so to speak, heh) was NOT exactly a great idea at that moment.

Being a 'straight-shooter' (so to speak, heh) was NOT exactly a great idea at that moment. I agree with this. Whether or not it's a popularly held opinion, it's a suicidal one for a public figure today. BTW, I completely disagree with what Hardaway said. This was all over El Paso today, as he's been quite popular here since his college days. And absolutely no one is coming to defend him. Everyone is saying "he had no business saying that, whether it's "true" or not."

Even for blatant homophobia, his statements were awfully harsh. He actually used the word "hate" to describe how he feels about homosexuals. Doesn't get much worse than that.
Sportscenter set me up for a big let down in the way they presented the story. They played the clip of his comments, but to set it up, they just had a picture of him up over the shoulder of the anchor, and the anchor's only comments were, "In light of John Amaechi coming out, former NBA star Tim Hardaway dropped a bombshell during a radio interview", yadda yadda, without saying what the bombshell was. Before hearing the clip, I thought that maybe Hardaway had come out as gay himself, which would be pretty significant since he was a legitimate star in the league, and so might be able to change more viewpoints than a relative nobody like Amaechi. But no, it was just the opposite.
But yeah, I was less surprised by the fact that he held such a viewpoint than I was by the fact the he expressed such open hatred on the radio, for all to hear. Most bigots know what sort of reactions their viewpoints get from a lot of audiences.

Did the "journalist" (a rare breed in the Sports World) asked him why he hates gays ... ?

Well, Hardaway started off saying that he wouldn't want to be on a team with a gay teammate, and then when the interviewer (Dan Lebetard) said that that was a homophobic thing to say, that's when Hardaway went off talking about how he hates gays and that homosexuality should not be "in the world, in the United States". Lebetard sucks (and, it was the very end of the show, so they may not have had time, so no, he didn't ask for a fuller explanation, but Hardaway was interviewed later in the day by a local reporter in Florida who did get a fuller explanation. I haven't had a chance to listen to this one yet, but you can listen to it here.

Certifiable genius Michael Medved chimes in:
"Tim Hardaway (and most of his former NBA teammates) wouldn't welcome openly gay players into the locker room any more than they'd welcome profoundly unattractive, morbidly obese women. I specify unattractive females because if a young lady is attractive (or, even better, downright 'hot') most guys, very much including the notorious love machines of the National Basketball Association, would probably welcome her joining their showers. The ill-favored, grossly overweight female is the right counterpart to a gay male because, like the homosexual, she causes discomfort due to the fact that attraction can only operate in one direction. She might well feel drawn to the straight guys with whom she's grouped, while they feel downright repulsed at the very idea of sex with her."

I have no idea who this Michael Medved person is, but he seems to have some issues.
