post-midnight...dbl-GAH!
i'm sorta between 2 belts of light pollution, so i do see a nice sky-ful of stars.
but i DO know how friggin cool a pitch black sky can be.
washington island, door county wisconsin, probably 10 years ago was unfuckingbelieveable on a moonless night...and it WAS the northeast side of the island when my wife, my father-in-law and me cooked hot dogs over an open fire and drank a LOT of point beer, the 3 of us watching what the lithuanians call satelitai - 'satellites' - that particular night.
and it was one after the other.
no moon whatsoever...which was made more clear when we walked into 'town' (2-3 bars-restaurants on a country road) and tried walking back in the pitch dark, unable to see the road or anything EXCEPT for the odd farmhouse that had a lamp or 2 going.
and we had a good 3-4 mile walk!
those farmhouses kept us on the roads at least.
