Wow Strat, that's neat view. I could never do that!
Phil, that's a cool looking house. You built that? Is that your current abode?

I can't seem to get my scanner to work properly with transparencies so the picture you see doesn't come close to give a fair rendition of that house
It was built in the summers of 1976-1977 and I kept it for 10 years.
The(apparent from inside)frame was built with stacked 6x6" pieces of wood salvaged from a barn nearby and the exterior was all covered with cedar planks and cedar shingles ...
I'll try to find old B&W pictures in my files tomorrow ...

The man that really built that house was 76 at the time and it was his 36th house ... !! All I did was draw a floor plan with the dimensions and the roof angle and then we just did what he told us to do ...
Took a fuckin'week just to put the shingles on the 50º angle roof ... !!

Wow, that's beautiful Phil. This is Manitoulin Island, where I spent a lot of time as a kid. We still have a (very old, very rustic) camp here. It's only 1 1/2 hours from my hometown, but one of my very favourite places in the whole world. View from the Cup & Saucer Hiking Trail, which I plan on heading back to this fall... img.imagetown.net/16305076.jpg [/img]

What body of water is that island situated in?
Like Hudson Bay or something?

Damn !! I'd forgot I had lost almost all my photos in that early 80's fire ... Those are the only two I found and you can't see the beams construction ... !! Oh well ...

What a house, Phil! I can see the color of the wood even though it's black-and-white. I guess you need that steep roof slope up there! I love the fireplace. That's what I want in my next home - a fireplace designed to actually burn a large fire, and not a "scotch tape" fireplace made for one of those waxy, petrolium-filled phake logs, or worse yet - GAS LOGS! Ghah!

Very cool Phil. I can see what you mean...shingling a roof with a pitch like that. Holy shit!

Yep, we're not quite THAT far north, rocdoc. What Phil said - it's in the northern part of Lake Huron. Largest island in a freshwater lake in the world... and breathtakingly beautiful.

Aw, NZ towns look so cute. Liz and I are going over there in February so I finally get to see for myself!
I'm gonna dig out a couple of scenery pics when I get home tonight. I have some good ones of Belgium and a few decent ones of England (however it was before I got the digital camera so they're not great)
