Um. Please forgive my interrupting. Hi to Phil and maarts and Don and rocdoc. I am a long-lost castaway, but I wanted to check in as I've been thinking a lot about lovely board friends lately. I just turned 31, and it hit me that it was 10+ years ago that I first started posting. Needless to say, I have no idea what is happening with anybody, and I wasn't sure where to post a hello. But I thought this would be a good place, since I am living in the North Bay of SF these days and it's the farthest place from all the other places I have lived. Maybe I'll round up a pic or two later. Danielle

'interrupting', HAW! and i'd love to hear about what you've been doing, danielle. lots of water under the bridge for the LOT of us here. and brother don's idea is a good one, for catching up more quickly, IF you're so inclined. and it would involve less writing on a nearly abandoned board for that matter....NOT that there's anything wrong with that!

Thanks guys. BIG smile. I should have stayed dropped in last time around since WHERE is everybody? Never thought I'd see the day. I remember some general feeling of frustration among people when I was last around, say, late '07? Wow, I suck.
But don't get me wrong, I am GLAD to catch you all are here!
I do love it here. I love West Marin County the most. It's so beautiful it kills me. If we couldn't escape to Point Reyes every so often, I might lose my mind from living in an otherwise extremely snooty, stuffy part of the Bay Area. Husband is in the Coast Guard, and stationed at a team that specifically trains for/work oil spills and HAZMAT situations, and there are only 3, and so we are here. (The other two teams are in Louisiana or Virginia. I find the Pacific Ocean a lot more alluring -- too many disasters in the Gulf, and well, Virginia is...Virginia...) We came in January '09 after a year and a half on Staten Island. What a crazy life. Two cats, no kids...and happy that way. ;-) In case anyone wonders, yes, he has been in the Gulf non-stop since the Deepwater Horizon explosion. He's going back to NO on Friday.
Yes Don, I am still pursuing artistic endeavors, just not in a way I ever thought I would! Academic theatre pretty much shredded every drop of confidence in my abilities and drive I had for the profession. The not-for-profit dance group I put so much effort into, in Louisville, sunk under the weight of the director's mishandling of funds, lost sponsors, oh, you get it, it fell apart, as those things are apt to. Truly, truly disheartening stuff. I just stopped pursuing it. I decided I wanted to learn something that is more singular, pedestrian (as in NOT PERFORMING) and kinder to the soul. So I've been taking classes here and there in photography. Always wanted to. Don't know if I'll ever be a working professional, and I really need a REAL job...but for now, I am *happy* learning. Happy! And oddly, I sorta got sucked back into performing in my filmmaking class. I am enjoying it.
SOOO, there's my little novel. What's the haps with you guys? Phil - how are your kids? 2 boys? Is that right? And rocdoc, last I was here you had one little boy...Don, one of these days we're gonna have to meet you at the halfway point between J's parent's house in New Albany and you.
And could someone give me the condensed lowdown on the mass exodus from this place if ya can?

"Phil - how are your kids?" Kids... What kids?? But... Seriously... Eldest Son is 19 and just started college (university) in September. He studies to become a teacher / english second language... He plays rugby and coach two high school teams. And he wants to go to New-Zealand next summer. He's still with his girlfriend and spend most of his time at her parent's house... So we don't get to see him much! Here are the two of them at their finest: Second Son (18 y/o) academic road is a lot bumpier... He's still working on his high school diploma after a one year hiatus and he's unsure of what he will do next year. All he really cares about is *Bicolline*... www.bicolline.org/...some kind of fantasy live action role-playing game... He's the green troll on the left! Here he is with his girl friend last halloween... Better-Half is still working at the same Home Senses store... and that's pretty much it!!

ÔÔPS! Forgot about Jules... i got it! i got it! ^ 'His Master's Squash' ~ lumen, great to hear that happiness has done crept up on ya! and in NoCal no less. excellent! our matas is 6 (i'll try to put up a more current pic sometime soon) AND 3-4 months ago we obtained a labrador-poodle mix 'puppy'. his little brother substitute i guess. he was 45 pounds at 6 months, now tipping the scales at 65 when he's 8-9 months old. just a gorgeous dog. and everyone's got theories regarding the 'exodus'...mine's never been real popular, especially among the people i blame (who in turn blame ME, when they're not blaming conscientious moderating here, criminally stunting youthful 'creativity'), so perhaps i'll just keep it to myself. bottom line EVERYONE got overly sensitive about a variety of things, but one group organized, picked up their toys and moved to a utopian elsewhere, in a huff. sort of a vengeful exclusionary huff, in fact. and your IS a valid question, but in general ANY sort of a post-mortem analysis is seen as hugely unwelcome...and has become sort of a verboten subject. and it's probably far more positive to just let THAT past alone. anyone else feel like picking up that narrative?

HÉÉÉÉÉ! Strawman... Nice to hear from you!
Thanks for the invitation...
If Eldest Son's trip Down Under materialize, I'll tell him to get in touch with you!
He's been invited by a guy who's studying for the year in Québec city and who's playing on the same rugby team.
Of course, for the moment, it's only a project and he has to get half the money for the trip and airfare but I'll keep your email address on file just in case!
Thanks again!!
