Mainstream country music is bad (Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, The Dixie Chicks etc.). Really bad. Some of the older stuff was cool though.
Sorry to hear about the close-minded boy, Mary. I like some indie rock, but it's not the ONLY thing I listen. I just got DSL for own computer, and this weekend I downloaded a few tracks by The Fiery Furnaces, Nas, Ella Fitzgerald, The Adverts, Slick Rick etc. I really want to find new music myself. People should go out and explore lots of different artists/genres, instead of just narrowly sticking to one genre.
God bless the internet.

Yeah, that movie rules.
"What would you do if you had a million dollars?" "I'll tell you what'd I do, man, two chicks at the same time, man."
LOL.

LOL. haha, there you go. that neighbor guy was hilarious, especially when he was asked for help and he said something like "nah, man, i don't need you fucking up my life too". and the part about the crazy guy threatening to burn the office down. i predicted that he would, but i laughed hysterically when it happened... and for everyone concerned, don't worry... nobody was hurt!

only read part of that post, but it's not a prejudice to say that tons of mainstream country music is just about alcohol, lost girlfriends, pickup trucks, dogs, and cowboys. i turned on the local country station and think it's some of the most hilarious stuff ever. though hank williams was cool, despite the cliches. i'm not really sure if they were cliches when hank williams was singing abou them anyway. more to the point, it's not really a prejudice to say that tons of rock music is about girls and getting laid. what conclusions are we supposed to draw about rock music from that, though?? anyway, since i've been home this morning, it's been.... Cheers, M

i hear less stuff about girls and getting laid on rock radio than i do about cowboys/booze/etc. on country radio, i'll say that. most country radio is one big cliche, though a hysterical one nonetheless. picture time... admittedly i've only listened to the singles and the first track so far... i love the singles, but if the first track is any indication of what the rest of the record is, i better stick to what i already like. "sex type thing" is one hell of a rocker. really into "wicked garden", "creep", and "plush" as well. see? singles. i'm so sick of this record being bashed. listened to it again, and think it's awesome. their only record that varies musically (unless you count nimrod, but most of that is just violent rambling, though still good stuff), and i think they succeed by getting out different emotions and being as catchy as the black plague (... ehr... in a good way... somehow...) at the same time. damn, this guy said some really contraversial, harmful bullshit. ... yet he's still the 2nd or 3rd best president in the last 40 years or so (mostly by default) somehow. hearing is believing, i can't describe this stuff. A+ material!

I'm of the opinion that people should listen to whatever the hell they want to listen to, and I don't particularly see anything wrong with wanting to listen to only one type of music, be it indie rock, death metal or mainstream pop.

Although in the case of death metal, i'd probably appreciate it if the person would have the kindness to keep the volume down when i'm around.

Proud, Good News doesn't sound like Radiohead. It's really good, you should check it out.
Speaking of Modest Mouse, I just saw them play at Hammerstein Ballroom, and they were great. They really sound incredible live.

Most of this album is a major disappointment, but the good songs are really good. I put it on tonight just because I really wanted to hear "Remember the Mountain Bed" which is playing right now, and it was worth it. This song is killer, even if it is nine and a half hours long.
