Scary Monsters Super Creeps . . . . . . . probably my favourite Bowie record, too Bowiglou. Teenage Wildlife is right up there w/my faves of his stuff.... man, back in the day I was a total, fullblown bowie-ite of fanatic proportions. Saw him twice live: Once during the SOUND + VISION tour, when Adrian played lead guitar-hero for him; and the other time in a more intimate venue, when he fronted TIN MACHINE w/the Sales Bros. Probably my #1 Favorite Rock Singer, EVER. Not to mention lyricist: No one can touch Bowie's lyrics. He is a born poet / troubadour / glam superSTAR!

OK, I've had enough....I tired to cut and past a jpg picture of Bowie in the Message box but to no avail..cmon, how do you do it?..those were TOO cool Thorny..and Thorny, I went to both of those shows in LA that you allude to: the 1990 Sound and Vision tour and 1992 Tin Machine....quite honestly, of the 11 times or so I've seen Bowie since 1978, the Sound and Vision tour was the most lackluster and perfunctory.....we all knew it was BS that he was "retiring" his catalogue as he so profusely professed...but I just wasn't into that Montreal 'hands' dance troupe...plus, I saw it at Dodger Stadium which was much too cavernous........very disappointing show....

Listening to a CD I made which paired up the Vines' new one, 'Winning Days', with Ryan Adams' (bkwds)'Rock And Roll' disc...or 90% of it...that 'Burning Photograph' song was EZ to eliminate it cause it irritates the FUCK out of me when it comes on....the Vines disc has some terrific songs, no matter what the flak I might get from some people here.
....and Ryan Adams' 'Wish You Were Here' is so achingly wonderful in a desolate 'I'm so fucked up right now, but god I love you'-way. Nice stuff.
Then I moved on to Lucinda's Car Wheels and World Without Tears...this woman's voice takes a bit of getting used to, but I think I'm 'there'...great backing band.

No offense but living here in Australia, I have had enough of the Vines... they are done to death on the radio stations I usually can stand, and i am just having trouble seeing what's so good about them. Understand that they flog them down here as if they were our answer to Nirvana.
So I wouldn't slam anyone for liking them RocDoc, because I can honestly see how they could be a great band to throw into the CD player and listen to every once in a while... I've just been bashed to death with 'em lately.
I'm in a bit of an early Genesis frame of mind this morning. I feel a rotation of "Selling England By the Pound" coming on.

...point well-taken, Scott. Tho sadly really similarly to the one I heard from several of you folks regarding Powderfinger...whose material new AND old, I really love also!
Commercial 'success'.... a blessing AND a curse!

I've been known to complain about Powderfinger in my time... Its the all time big problem with Australian bands... they get a little success overseas and the press here gush about them like they are the be all and end all of music and drive the public nuts, and force people away from the bands themselves alot of the time.

"On My Mind" Strikes me as particularly pandering to the Oz rock and international crowd, yeah...
Plus there was the whole radio sheen on Odyssey N. 5.... so yeah, I'm reading it as a sellout!
There ya go! I'm not hiding it anymore! :-)

seriously, from the opening discordance of It's no Game I to the defeated resignation of Its No Game II, there is nary a weak spot on the LP I dunno, as a Japanese person, the Japanese vocals on It's No Game freaks me out. Other than that though, yeah, it's a great album. I've been listening to nothing but the new Gymnopedie album for the past month. Strong contender for my best of 2004 award. Oh, and I'm also rediscovering the brilliance of Yoshio Hayakawa's 90s output.

I re - acqainted myself with the Australian band The Underground Lovers today... listened to their most recent album Cold Feeling (way back in 1999) a sorta mis mash of experiemental electronica and some guitar / indie rock.... it all flows together quite seamlessly though, and the album sorta has a downbeat, mellow but quite striking and memorable mood.
The n I listened to an old favourite by the same band... Rushall Station... named after a train station in Melbourne of all places! This album is alot more guitar oriented, but still has a few electronic elements to it... probably the rawest thing they ever did... and it works really well!!!
