My god can you not participate in a little lighthearted humorous debate on these boards. or should I say boreds. If these are "boreds", then why the hell are you here? Can you give a legitimate answer? I don't think so. If these boards are so boring, please feel free to move on to more exciting territory. You can do that, can't you? And if not, why not? |

Okay, this has gone on far enough. Let's let these people listen to whatever the hell they want to and get back to the topic of music. Drum - Yeah, I absolutely knew that you'd like Universal Audio. I pretty much had a good idea of what to expect when I heard the sample of "Everybody Come Down". But I honestly never imagined back in 2002-2003 when I was heavily into Hate that they would take such a pop direction on their next album. But hey, as long as it sounds good (and it does!) I'm not complaining. This is the record that REM wanted to make when they did Reveal. My favorite tracks though, aren't the upbeat ones like "Everybody Come Down" and "Girls Of Valor" but the sadder songs, such as "Come Undone", "The City Consumes Us" and "Keep On Breathing" (I'm blurting out these titles, which I suck at remembering in the first place, off the top of my head, so all apologies if I get them wrong). Speaking of "Come Undone", the Japanese edition I have lists the song as "Come Undo me" on the back of the inlay tray (the booklet spells it with an n), and I'm wondering if this is just a typo or if they intentionally misspelled it to make fun of our incompetence at English! Oh, and just so you know, we got two bonus tracks  Now, if we could only convince Riley to buy this, we would have led a meaningful existence on these boards. |

I find Dio cheesy and irrelevant these days, and I don't mind saying so when he's up for discussion, but each to their own. No-one's having a personal dig at you two (Nympho, CF) just by expressing their opinion, you understand?
As for Interpol... as luke said, even huge Interpol fans like myself and Patten have taken the piss out of some of Paul Banks' lyrics on this or the RT10 thread at some length. Some lines are brilliant, more are embarrassing. I also think Carlos D's shoulder holster, armband and austere Nazi hairstyle make him look a bit of a tit. On the other hand, he's a great bassist in the Peter Hook mould, and that's all I really care about.

Yeah, I agree with this 100 per cent. If you don't learn how to live with your favorite bands being criticized by others, you're not going to enjoy your time here.
Also, let the records show that I've never read a single work of poem by Oscar Wilde. I don't know jack shit about English poetry (or Japanese poetry for that matter). Only reason I mentioned him was that Morrissey had him on his side in "Cemetry Gates".

Yeah, those are all very cool, Ryosuke. I really love "Get Action!". Might be the oldest musical trick in the book but that "friend don’t you know" hook is just totally irresistible. A perfect pop tune. I imagine we will sucker Riley in eventually. Could be hard work, though. I’ve been trying to subtly kick start him on the Rheos' catalogue for years now and you see how far that's gotten me.  |

Let's just declare Dio to be the best poet to ever write in the English language since Oscar Wilde, so that this NymphoFantasia person will (hopefully) calm down a bit. To be fair though, I think that a lot of lyrics, including ones we like, would appear mediocre at best when you read them without their musical context (regardless of whether the music is coming out of your stereo or is just being played in your head). And then of course, you have people like Noel Gallagher whose lyrics sound stupid even with the music. LoL! brilliant |

Well Fantasia, I listened to that Borgir-album last night, and I can definitely see (with all due respect) how you need a "sense of humor" in order to appreciate it . . . let me put it this way: Dimmu Borgir is now, officially, the absolute "cleanest" and "prettiest" "black" metal I've ever heard . . . I could not make it past track 5 . . .
Dimmu Borgir feature:
*drum machine sounding percussion*
*syrupy strings*
*silly, operatic vocals*
*cheesy symphonics*
I could be mean . . . but let's just say I prefer my metal blacker than that . . . [glow=black,2,300]rawer[/glow] than that ... more EVIL than that... and BETTER than that. I mean, OLD MAN'S CHILD hands down beats Dimmu Borgir into a bloody, sycophantic mess. OMC is both rawer AND far more "technical" at once than Dimmu Borgir seems to ever be capable of . . . *especially* if this "Euphonic Misanthropia" album is to be considered exemplary from their catalogue. I *did* hear that OMC/Borgir early demo split, and their music on that was a TAD better...but I recall still not responding to it that much.
I prefer the likes of Darkthrone, Bathory, Mayhem, Burzum, and the like; and I'll take grunting/screaming/unintelligible DeathMetal in the vein of CryptopsY, Decapitated, SuffocatioN, etc any day of the week to the polished silliness of them Borgir freaks. But that's just me.
