NP: metal band with a chick singer, big deal...check that. a totally UN-extraordinary chick singer. tho she does have her moments, so maybe it's the producer/production (or their management)pushing her into this 75% shitty direction. i mean, look, with the right inspiration and direction, chrissie hynde can be made to sound fearsome, with some severely limited pipes. music's ok, but imo they NEED a far better singer than this one.

One of the coolest album covers ever, as well.
The video Rush made for "Time Stand Still" is just about as goofy as it gets.

I'm hoping to find a good chick singer over the Easter holiday. Guess now would be a good time to do that....me, I'm just going to play Mott's "Roll Away The Stone" and call it a done deal.

They play hockey in Holland too, you know.....not only the field-variety. Watch many sports. Better than the news to be honest.
NP- Panda Bear- Tomboy.....been waiting for an age on this album and so far it doesn't disappoint.

Some recent listens: Angles - The Strokes A few groovin tracks on this one, tracks 2 and 9 come to mind. When talking about the new Strokes album with my brother he was shocked when I told him I wasn't familiar with this album except for "Automatic Stop" which is arguably the Strokes best song. Turns out they don't have another song on this album that is close to it but there are a few other good tracks, I will admit. I've never been more disappointed with a release of any of my favorite bands, ever. I listened to it too many times times to try to "get it" and I finally realized that there's really nothing to get other than it sucks. HELL yes! I bought this, I dunno, maybe 6 to 9 months ago and listened to it a few times. For some reason only about 3 of the songs really resonated with me. I don't what the hell was wrong with me. Not many albums are this solid. I plan to play it a good bit more in the next few days. As Tall As LionsThe strongest tracks on this'n are around the middle part. Very talented, these guys. I'm impressed. I started a diet and exercise program a couple months ago and have lost about 30 lbs so far. A lot of this is thanks to the first of these two discs that causes me to push myself a bit harder on the treadmill. Something about the first half of this album makes me run like hell, certain parts of "In My Time Of Dying" come to mind. The Zeppelin never gets old for me, somehow. If I get worn out on one album, one of their other albums usually has the ability to blow me away, still, after all this time. And I should add that PG is my favorite album of theirs. Just got this and have only listened to half of it but I really dig what I've heard so far. "Change Your Mind" may be my favorite Neil Young song.

alright! melon's writing here again! using a particular album to push yourself while working out is one of my favorites...i had a c-90 from a few years ago that i titled 'heart-attack music' because it was SO fucking high energy consisting of favorite guitar solos from martin barre, ronnie montrose, carlos santana, among some other full on songs by the stooges, the sex pistols, shit like that...one drawback was that i used to sweat so much that i'd have a set of headphones (which were CHEAP back then) rust away every couple of months. i JUST started out bicycling on this little travelled trail along the illinois & michigan canal (fascinating history there) and am using my ipod to the MAX and loving it! i wanna go ride JUST to listen to my music out there.. and 30 pounds! congrats!!! i REALLY need to try and get some time in on this thread.... really. Doc's post did remind me of what came cheaply in the mail this week: mmmm,,,,well, yeah. Never heard of this until last week and just felt I had to get it to aid in my compilation of an anthology I'm expanding. Written & directed by Andrew Lloyd Webber in the late '70's, yes. But the players he brought in....Don Airey & Rod Argent on keyboards, the FANtastic Jon Hiseman on drums, Phil Collins also on percussion, and a certain Gary Moore holding down the guitar parts. ....uh, there's some dated stuff with a near disco-vibe, but a couple of REAL decent keeper tracks!

NP: Dire Straits, Majestic Theatre, San Antonio, USA, August 16th, 1985
Soundboard
CD 1
1. Ride across the river 2. Expresso love 3. One world 4. Romeo and Juliet 5. Private investigations 6. Sultans of swing 7. Why worry 8. Walk of life
CD 2
1. Two young lovers 2. Money for nothing 3. Wild west end 4. Intro Tunnel of love 5. Tunnel of love 6. Brothers in arms 7. Solid rock 8. Going home
"Amazing soundboard recording! Taken from the bootleg "Secrets in the closet". This is the real San Antonio, 16th August 1985, it's not another Houston. At the beginning of Walk of life, it is Mark Knopfler himself who is revealing the mystery: "This is where San Antonio is doing the walk, alright." And, at the end of Brothers in arms Mark says: "Thank you San Antonio, thank you!". Amazing! Great sound, complete show!"
Part 1 Part 2
fantastic show here, perfectly recorded in a not-too-large venue it sounds like. and knopfler just unspools bar upon bar of guitar solos, perfectly, in his inimitable style.
i also added my fave, telegraph road from a BBC show from 1992 to fill out disc 2...knopfler's playing IS a wonder to behold.
