I know it says "deluxe" version but is it the "difinative" version? The Allmans have seemed to have put that album out about as much as George Lucas has "STAR WARS" ....ok,,,,maybe not quite that much!

Funny, the second I saw that cover I had the urge to go pull it out of the stacks....probably haven't listened to it since near when it came out. Might do some good!

NP: ...on the recommendation of david grisman, interviewed in this wonderful book: ...^ hovhaness is very cool, but a grower, i feel. classical, even this more prog style (from the 1950s yet), is a hard-ER sell for me. *one which grabbed immediately was his rec of a brasilian mandolinist named jacob pick bittencourt aka (his stage name) jaco do bandolim. WOW!! he plays/played mando like segovia plays the guitar, i swear to god! ~ ...and fwiw, peter holsapple (for just one of these guys) has incredibly varied taste in music.

NP: OK, i've gotta forgive these guys trying to tack on blippy little electronic touches in what seems to be a perfectly commercial attempt for them...harder to forgive is them having seemingly given up on the 4-on-the-floor riff rock like they showed in their earlier albums, the ones like this one which i listened to just a bit earlier... fucking gonzo inspired disc this one...^ this put me in the mood for another blast of dirtbombs in fact, but talk about shifting gears! there's some cool stuff on partystore, but it's like going from malt liquor to execrable shit like miller lite...OK nothing's THAT bad.

i been busy...poor little castaways board. all alone. nobody loves you. boy, don p hasn't even wandered through... NP: Steely Dan 1974-05-20 Rainbow Theatre, London, UK Stereo soundboard, 2010 Remastered Edition (Remasters Workshop), excellent quality Lossless (FLAC) files Artwork included
So, here is another excellent show, and fine soundboard recording, from the 1974 Steely Dan tour. This one is the full-length show, featuring 4 additional songs ('My Old School', 'Dirty Work', 'Showbiz Kids', and substitutes 'Brooklyn' for 'Any Major Dude') not included in the earlier LA radio broadcast (see previous post), as well as an extended version (complete with dual drum solos, duet?) of the Dan rarity 'This All Too Mobile Home', which was only performed on this tour, and never recorded or released in any form. In addition, this is a recently remastered (Remasters Workshop, August 2010) version of this classic show, so the sound quality is top-notch, and presented here in lossless for maximum sound quality. So, here you get the full treatment, and can witness the original Steely Dan Band live in all it's glory, in what was really the only time ever (this tour, that is). This was Steely Dan at their best. A must for any fan of the band.
Track listing: 01 Bodhisattva 02 The Boston Rag 03 Do It Again 04 Brooklyn (Owes The Charmer Under Me) 05 King Of The World 06 Rikki Don't Lose That Number 07 Pretzel Logic 08 introductions 09 My Old School 10 Dirty Work 11 Your Gold Teeth II 12 Reelin' In The Years 13 Show Biz Kids 14 This All Too Mobile Home
Personnel: Donald Fagen (keyboards, vocal) • Walter Becker (bass) • Denny Dias (guitar) Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter (guitar) • Royce Jones (percussion, vocal) Michael McDonald (keyboards, vocal) • Jeff Porcaro (drums) • Jim Hodder (drums)
Note: For this edition, approximately three minutes of applause and tuning were removed to fit the show on one disc.
ridiculously, ridiculously good. don, i seem to recall you being a skunk baxter fan if not a steely dan fan, but i think this would fit the backyard deck to-do's to a freakin' tee. such clean inspired playing AND the singing, AI! stuff we've for the most part heard 6 kajillion times but here it is SO fucking good. three FAST simple mediafire packages - google 'bb chron blogspot', go to baxter's name. of course then you can ALSO find THIS lineup: The Best (K.Emerson, J. Walsh, J. Entwhistle, J.Baxter, S.Phillips) - 1990-09-26 - Yokahama, Japan
John Entwistle - bass Jeff "Skunk" Baxter - guitar Joe Walsh - guitar Keith Emerson - keyboardss Simon Phillips - drums with: Rick Livingstone - vocals Hamish Richardson - backing vocals Angus Richardson - backing vocals Fergus Richardson - backing vocals i've grabbed but haven't listened to it yet...

'ought to be?' come on come on, just get it.
and not a skunk baxter fan?
o-kaaaay then. but...
setlist, in case you weren't piqued enough to google the site:
Tracklist 01. Seven Bridges Road / Life In the Fast Lane 02. My Wife 03. Bodhisattva 04. Fanfare For the Common Man 05. Rikki Don't Lose My Number 06. Simon drum solo 07. Rocky Mountain Way 08. Too Late the Hero 09. America / Look At Us Now 10. Boris the Spider 11. Reelin' In the Years 12. Takin' It To the Streets
i for one am not any sort of an ELP fan- simply found them 90% too irritating, virtuosos or not.
but 'fanfare...' with entwhistle doing his VERY characteristic bass leaps all over the effing place is incredible. i replayed this show 3 times while bbq-ing...boddisatva is off! the blends they do of their musical histories (and i'm talking EACH of these guys) makes this a must have imo.

it's' not that I'm not a fan of Baxter, it's just that those two seemed the oddest pairing of the entire lineup. Baxter I'm SURE could jive with Emerson.
hmmm....."Too Late The Hero"......I always dug that Ox solo song and had forgotten all about it!

oh, in THAT way - now i get it....but this is oddball to the max - someone made the comment at the site this came from is that it sounds like a ringo all-stars lineup, but without the ringo grande. you DO have to hear it to appreciate it (well duh) because everyone gets a chance to shine for the japanese tv concert special this was done for. AND it sparkles because every musician supports the others wholeheartedly - professionalism reigns. ~ NP: Live In Stereo At Chester, PA June 14, 1957
1. Introduction 2. A Night In Tunisia 3. Autumn Leaves 4. Dizzy's Business 5. Anitra's Dance 6. Begin The Beguine 7. Left Hand Corner 8. I Love You Much Too Much 9. Yesterdays 10. Wonder Why 11. Cool Breeze
Review by Scott Yanow
Recorded less than a month before their exciting appearance at the 1957 Newport Jazz Festival, the Dizzy Gillespie Orchestra is in excellent form on this date from a concert in Chester, Pennsylvania. Despite there being liner notes, nowhere on this CD is the personnel of the orchestra listed. In addition to the trumpeter/leader, the key soloists are trombonist Al Grey, tenor-saxophonist Billy Mitchell and during the first part of "A Night in Tunisia," a young Lee Morgan. Other than an Austin Kromer vocal on "Wonder Why," the performances are generally quite rewarding with this version of the torrid "Cool Breeze" making for an intriguing comparison with the classic rendition from Newport.
this absolutely - fucking - smokes. you can hear people screaming in the background - i mean, hell yeah!
