One of the dudes I worked with at CD Warehouse turned me on to the Secret Chiefs 3 several years ago. It wasn't easy for him because I typically don't like bands that feature weird, far-out, fucked up exotic musical instruments and they kinda throw a lot of emphasis on what I typically consider a novelty. I got no use for novelty in music. But these guys do emply a lot of screwy time signatures and my love for math rock sort of allows me to cut them a little slack. Bet you didn't know that two of those guys are actually bona fide Benedictine monks, did you? Truth is stranger than fiction. So that may be and as above so below, the real stand out will always be the ridiculously talented Olivia Oyama.
