Yep, that was "Hummingbird". Kind of a weird McCartney-esque twist for them. There's a few of those on the album, but its definately not the sound of the whole thing. I think a lot of it will surprise you (especially "Spiders (Kidsmoke)", if you heard the versions of it they were doing live last year). Kind of surprised you aren't already fully familiar with the album, weeping, but I admire that you held out better than I was able to.

So I decide I'm going to rummage through RS.com just for the hell of it, and what do I see? David Fricke has given the new Beastie Boys album not four but FIVE fucking stars. This is so ridiculous. Has anyone here heard how terrible this album is? I mean, it seriously sucks, and not in ways that are just my opinion. The Beasties are a bunch of washed-up nobodies these days, and to give their awful new album five stars is the biggest lack of credibility I've ever seen in this magazine, much worse than giving folks like Britney Spears four stars. This is a joke.

...but Fricke is a pretty decent reviewer...too many loud concerts done rattled his brain?

That's what got me, rnr, was that I usually like Fricke's stuff.
And yeah, I know that RS is about as low as it gets, but this was bad even for them. They NEVER just threw around five stars like this before.

Yep, Rocky, I somehow held out listening to the new Wilco album from their website. Just want the first listen to be right. I think now I've only heard "Hummingbird" along with "At Least That's What I Thought You Said", which I heard live last year. That was a fantastic Neil Young-esque tune if there ever was one. I'm still bummed about no "Kicking Television", but I'm sure the record will be fantastic.

From what i have heard of the new Beasties album it just isn't five star material... I might go read what Pitchfork is saying about it, that is bound to be quite interesting!

Nope, won't be doing that, they pulled the review on the basis of some technical details regardiong the review... there's a retraction statement before you even log on to Pitchfork proper... kinda intriguing.

I've heard good things about the Beastie's new album . . . from posters hereabouts. Funny, the only thing I heard was a scathing review from ekul.. was it yesterday? Now Burning: Rasputina - Thanks For The Ether
