Oh, and Mary, I love your friends' choice for first dance, I remember you mentioning that before... actually, S & I had discussed that song, so that's probably where I got the idea!
We haven't picked a first song yet, but right now we're leaning towards Johnny & June singing 'Cause I Love You' - one of my absolute favourite songs right now:
I'll sweep out your chimney yes and I will bring you flowers
Yes and I will do for you most anything you want me to
If we live in a cottage you will feel like it's a castle
By the royal way you've treated and the attention shown to you
I'll be there beside you if you need a crying shoulder
Yes and I'll be there to listen when you need to talk to me
When you wake up in the darkness I will put my arms around you
And hold you till the morning sun comes shining through the trees
I'll be right beside you no matter where you travel
I'll be there to cheer you till the sun comes shining through
If we're ever parted I will keep the tie that binds us
And I'll never let it break cause I love you
[ ac.guitar ]
Honey, I will bring you honey from the beetree in the meadow
And the first time there's a rainbow I'll bring you a pot of gold
I'll take all your troubles and I'll throw 'em in the river
Then I'll bundle down beside you and I'll keep you from the cold
I'll be right beside you no matter where you travel
I'll be there to cheer you till the sun comes shining through
If we're ever parted I will keep the tie that binds us
And I'll never let it break cause I love you
Yes I'll sweep out your chimney... etc

hey ueb tunes et al (and I'll selectively ignore RN for his less than senstive response to my now abated headache!!!!).......anyway, back in the 80s , I use to make tons of compilation casettes for friends......usually songs I was into at that moment....and I still have many of those in my car....interesting hearing them now, and I can completely isolate my temperament at that time....if I have lots of The The, Nails, Bauhaus, Joy Division, etc, I probably wasn't doing too good!!!!

Speaking of Influential Music -- I just heard the most startling, amazing, fantastic, and inspired news! Ever since my music-lover's life was shattered into a million pieces & reconstructed by KORN's LIVE PERFORMANCE over 9 years ago in Boston -- I knew 2 things: This was the most intense, headiest live musical offering I'd ever witnessed, and the experience immediately launched KORN right up onto the same coveted live-performance stage ruled by PINK FLOYD and NINE INCH NAILS. After KORN released Life Is Peachy, this only confirmed their explosive, burgeoning talent into & beyond Nine Inch Nail's shadow, and after they released FOLLOW THE LEADER, I began dreaming of the day that KORN would release an entire COVER ALBUM OF THE WALL. When ISSUES finally was released on November 19, 1999 - (how could I ever forget that date?) - It blew me away to the point that it confirmed all my associations between this twisted BAkersfield band and my beloved Pink Floyd (Best Live Band EVER), as it also wholeheartedly and heatedly re-confirmed my perception that their dark heart beat to the same arrhythmic spasms that coursed through Nine Inch Nails. So I've know for years about Korn's legendary status in league with the greatest bands that ever lived (much to the chagrin & puzzlement of most other people).
And NOW: The news is out! These superlative INFLUENCES which have been helping drive Mr. Davis's twisted expressiveness throughout Korn's shattering legacy will see dark fruition in the upcoming release of 2 Covers on a forthcoming Korn Greatest Hits album:
Another Brick In The Wall
and
HEAD LIKE A HOLE
will be covered by the fabulous Bakersfield 5!!!!!!!!!
*And Everything Is Right With The World Again* ;D

Woah, Clash songs I've never heard before? Now there's news I wasn't expecting! Thanks for posting that, weeping. I'm obviously going to buy this, but I must say there's a cynical, conspiracy-theory side of me wondering if the record company didn't know about the existence of these tapes before they rereleased the entire Clash back catalog! Cause this sounds almost Who-like.... next thing, they'll rerelease London Calling again when Topper Headon finds in his basement a long-lost tape of himself burping at the recording studio after a night of hard drinking...
In any case the DVD sounds great, too.... kind of exciting to know that my Clash-buying days aren't over! Last time I bought a brand new Clash release (not counting the rereleases) was the live album back in ... 1999 I believe!
Cheers, M

I'm feeling quite firm in my resolve not to buy London Calling again when this comes out, I mean, the remastered edition was the third time I bought the album - that's it, no more.
Of course, the week it gets released will be a slow week or something and it'll be on sale and the next thing you know...

Hi Angel!
Yeah, I haven't been around recently, but my life's currently a miasma of overwork and early morning rising to catch the soccer (thank God, I can sleep in tomorrow, no matches scheduled!).
And YAY HOLLAND indeed! They fucking make me go through hell, supporting them as I do, but it's great to see the biys are still there, seemingly united in their goal to wash away 16 years of frustration and unfulfilled promises! Now to off the Portuguese and then for a rematch with the Czechs!
Just for the record the following:
*The new Wilco is OK, it bores me to tears at the longer, guitar-meandering bits but there's some good stuff on it as well.
* Bloody hell, the new Cure-album's a bit bizarre too. Bloodflowers took a while to grow, this one might go the same way!
* The Beasties are old-school's finest rappers...not everything's great on To The Five Burroughs but I love the sample-ripping and good lyricism.
* Currently I'm loving The Delays, the new Rokia Traore-album, AC Herman and a Herman Brood and His Wild Romance-retrospective....
Catch you all after the soccer.

I'm certain to not bother with the new Wilco, it's not a priority, since Yankee Hotel Foxtrot failed to ignite my senses, and they're saying this one isn't as good as even that... Don't feel too interested!
The Cure album has some level of interest... although I think there might be greater places to start on the Cure than their most current one!
Right now its all about Gomez, Epicure amd the Magnetic Fields!
Aside from that new music has been pretty uninspiring thus far... considering picking up the Melissa Auf Der Maur (sp?) album soon though!

Last year certainly yeilded more musical highlights for me it must be said, but not every year can be a stunner I guess!
