i put my vote in for allman. i would've also voted for santana, had he been there on the list.
i have to confess that i don't quite get hendrix. he's fine in small doses, but that's about it.

As technically proficient as all of these guitarists are, I have never seen somebody be such a part of his instrument like Hendrix was.
Just watching some of his DVDs reminds me what a great musician he was. He could caress his instrument like Slowhand and torture it like Townshend in the next bars with a flick of the wrist. His facial features while playing tell the story- he is totally immersed in what he does. Oh sure, Clapton does it too, so did Allman...but Jimi was something else. There was soul in what he did, as pure as love.
No, I'm not on shrooms or whatever, I am sitting here watching Hendrix At Woodstock and see the proof. You don't even have to like (much of ) the music, just watching him is fascinating.

I freely admit that Hendrix changed all the rule...he is amazing. I just don't ever get the urge to listen to Hendrix. Allman's phrasing and style are overwhelming at times, for me anyway. I've not heard a anything from Hendrix that makes me want to listen to it over and over like In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed or, frankly, anything from the Fillmore concerts. I'm sure it's just a matter of preference really at this level...
