NP: Frank Zappa - Strictly Commercial
You've inspired me to dust off my Zappa, Phil!
Strato, Mojo is also the name of my regular pub... great music, piss poor beer. There's also a poster of Zappa sitting on the john with his pants down around his extremely stylish boots. His skinny legs there for all to see. Certainly explains why I persist in drinking the beer there!
I also wanted to nominate JJ Cale. He's the guy I would say plays with the most feel. He also writes the most beautuful songs and has inspired legions of great musicians. He's the epitome of deeply felt organic blues expression.

I saw JJ Cale live in the early 80's ... Played the entire show on the side of the stage almost in the wings away from the spectators" view !! Great show !! Now playing (in the spirit of this board) ... Joe Satriani ~ An Anthology

We covered several Cale tunes in the Mojos. One of the faves was 13 Days, which was fitting for a Birmingham based band. Plus we had often had the Mojettes on backup vocals.
Thirteen days on a gig down south We’ve got enough dope to keep us all high Got two girls dancing to pick up the crowd Sound man to mix us, make us sound loud Sometimes we make money, sometimes I don’t know Thirteen days with five to go
(la, la, lah, la, lah, la, lah, la, lah...)
Birmingham to Mobile and up to Baton Rouge Smoking cigarettes and reefer, drinking coffee and booze See the sun come up in Georgia, go down in New Orleans Get to know a woman to get in her jeans Sometimes we make money, sometimes I don’t know Thirteen days with five to go
(la, la, lah, la, lah, la, lah, la, lah...)
Migrant worker is the name of this band When we come to your town, come see us if you can Well, we been to California, we been to New York Some think we’re good, others they don’t Sometimes we make money, sometimes I don’t know Thirteen days with life to go
(la, la, lah, la, lah, la, lah, la, lah...)

I can't read and I can't write And I don't know my left from right I can't tell if the sun's gonna shine And I don't know if you'll ever be mine But I'll make love to you any old time I can't swim and I can't fly I ain't no fish, I ain't no bird in the sky I can't tell if the sun's gonna shine And I don't know if you'll ever be mine But I'll make love to you any old time I can't count from one to ten And I don't know the shape I'm in I can't tell if the sun's gonna shine And I don't know if you'll ever be mine But I'll make love to you any old time
The first song I learnt to play on the guitar! Have now progressed to playing the open chords on Magnolia, one of the most beautiful songs ever...
