all their album have a fair amount of crap on them so it's just as well really. That's what ruined Californication for me. The singles were really good, but the album was subpar overall. I didn't even give By the Way a chance 'cause I didn't like the singles there. Being alongside such great tracks as "Scar Tissue" and "Californication" just made the crap more pronounced. I really don't know how I feel about the Chili Peppers anymore.

I'm not even talking about the funk or the fun stuff to be honest Kool. In and of itself that became pretty uninspired as well. The older you get, the less you should be singing about panties and stuff. I'm talking about the grit and the lack of polish they had when the peaked. No one's on heroin anymore or homeless. No one has any shitty stories to tell. No big deal. You can't make those things up. Obviously that would be worse. The music reflects this shift though and it just doesn't resonate the same way as when they were skinny sweaty kids with a point to make. Whether they were making singing about coyotes or addiction, they were undeniable. In your face. They're more like juicy multi-coloured bell peppers these days. I think the chili spice part is gone. The hooks on this single sound just like the last two albums to me. If I heard them on the radio (if I listened to the radio) I wouldn't even raise my head. It is what it is. Good for them that people are still interested. Mayve something form this new opus will surface and prove me wrong. My follow up post incidentally was with U2 specifically in mind

I need to revise my top 5 RHCP albums. I was listening to Californication and By The Way back to back the other day and I realized that BTW is actually the better of the 2. There are no real duds on it. Californication had several. Granted, it had better singles. And "Easily" of course which I like more than anything else on that album.

Their last couple albums have all had enough crap on them that the idea of a double album does kind of concern me. But those last few albums also had a handful of great songs, as good as anything they've ever done. I'm weary of this new one coming out, but I haven't seen a reason to write it off yet without hearing it.

I haven't heard much from BTW, other than the singles...I liked Californiacation, for the most part. I thought there were some really bad tunes on there, but it also had "Parallel Universe" which is one of my favorite Chili Peppers songs.
A few months ago (February maybe?) I re-listened to ULMFPP album, it was a lot better than I remembered.....First few listens I didn't like it at all, and was dissapointed w/ Jack Irons' drumming. Revisiting it, I dug most of the songs, and was able to appreciate Jack's style more.

"Hey oh/listen what I say-oh" What the fuck is this shit? So far, Kiedis is boring the hell out of me. Frusciante is in top form, though, and Flea picks it up in spots.

So far, "21st Century" is easily the best track on this album. Still ten more tunes to go, though.

The Chili Peppers played for my birthday once. I started up the pits (during their cover of "Search & Destroy")!

Soul To Squeeze might be my favorite Chili Pepper's song.

Left work early today to go to the Conan taping. Picked up the album on my way, but haven't had a chance to listen yet. Once I make myself some god damn food I'll be giving it a spin.

"Wet Sand" is excellent. So are "21st Century" , "Storm In a Teacup" and "Tell Me Baby". John does wonders. Flea shines [mainly] on the first disc, John shines on both, especially the second. It's pretty hard for the songs to sink in though. It's over two hours long. Maybe I'll just stick to listening to one disc at a time... btw, am I the only one who thinks "Readymade" sounds like a Rage song? It's got a "Bombtrack" vibe to it... which is a good thing of course. Must be the heavy bass intro. Just after a couple of listens, I can say it's pretty easy for the casual fan to burn a single disc of his/her favourites. There seems to be something for everyone here... I'm pretty sure even Riley would probably like "Storm In a Teacup" and maybe a few more on the second disc.

First complaint: I can't get the second disc out of the packaging. I seriously think it is stuck there unless I break it.

Soul To Squeeze might be my favorite Chili Pepper's song. I love that song too. Def in my top 5 Peppers' songs. Great video too. It's a shame it's not on any of their albums, only on the Greatest Hits, which I refuse to buy for just a few tracks I don't have.
