So far I am really digging the new record and I can't really see what the bad reviews are for. It's not like Kiedis has ever had that great of lyrics. I have always listened to the Peppers for them actually putting me in a pretty good mood. I have to agree here. The Peppers aren't supposed to be thought provoking, it's just feel good music. Besides, nobody sings nonsense better than Kiedis. It just sounds good, and that's all there is to it. The reviews I've read so far are mostly positive. Rolling Stone gave it 4 stars, Q gave it 5! (although I think that's stretching it just a little bit). The only bad ones I've read are Pitchfork's [as expected and predicted last week. They can't embrace something that's obviously going to top charts worldwide and sell millions. That wouldn't be good for their rep as assholes]... and allmusic said they didn't like the production. I actually disagree, the rhythm section especially has never sounded richer, especially compared to By The Way. It also sounds fantastic on headphones.

Best guitarist of the last however many years? Yes. Top 5 no question, but I would tend to give that nod to Matt Bellamy from Muse.

I fucking love Bellamy, but he's not doing anything nearly as innovative. In fact, he's not doing anything that Corgan wouldn't be doing better if Corgan wasn't so damn old and cranky and mid-life crisis. I give Frusciante the nod. He's the only guitarist on earth I'd buy a jam band CD for.

Word is law on Frusciante, man. He owns Muse. The guy from Muse follows Frusciante when he is in England and begs him to let him hold his guitar cord for him or carry his amp to the next sold out Peppers gig.
Pitchfork needs to lighten up. They embraced Franz Ferdinand, who has sold millions and has their songs used on Madden Football for christ-sakes. The hating of every major band from the early nineties is so tired and I would take the worst Chili Peppers record over anything that those hacks from Clap Your Hands And Say Yeah or any other brooklyn band for that matter, have done in the last five years. Jeezum Crow.........they have become that guy that DJs at the Limelight in Brooklyn. The indie guy in high school that is so cool it's just worriesome. Blah. People who don't dig some good time music are highly suspect to me.

Bellamy is a top 10 guitarist for me. That guy is a little bit of a pretentious dick, I love it. When I saw Muse live, he sat down at his piano & started playing one of Rachmaninoff's wankier pieces, but no-one complained because its Matt Bellamy. The guy from Muse follows Frusciante when he is in England and begs him to let him hold his guitar cord for him or carry his amp to the next sold out Peppers gigThat was funny Nice PF rant too, Skvor. Clap Your Hands Say Meh can suck my balls. What makes me laugh about cool indie kids is that their entire genre was revitalised by The OC. I love that show, but its amusing to me that the hottest next best indie thing is usually something that was listened to by Seth. Your band got cool because a Jewish nerd with a mumbling problem thought they rocked. Ahahaha. Rock on indie kids.

It made my puppies wake up & go apeshit. One of them is peeing on the sofa & the other one is trying to growl at a picture of Ben Harper. What did Ben Harper ever do to anyone besides make mellowed out tunes with a political bent?

But they're puppies! Aren't they supposed to piss on things and growl?

Yeah, I know. But Ben Harper is innocent in all this. I hold Flea personally responsible for the apeshit puupies.
One of my mates was surfing down the coast this last summer & he said he saw Flea busking in town (Flea is Australian by birth & owns property here. He lives here for some time each year, I think). Anyway, he said Flea seems just as crazy-ass in real life as he is on stage, except he wasn't naked. My mate gave him a dollar for busking. Tightass.

Something in the water there........I swear to god every Austrailan woman I have ever seen has given me an instant chubber. My father is threatening to move there, so if he does, oh my god I will probably never come back.

I listened to some of the album, not enough for a proper review, but what I heard of it, I didn't like it so much....I guess I have some of the same complaints that others have...For one, it's too long. Double albums are hard to pull off, and I don't think this album pulls it off. As usual per my feeling on double albums, a single album would have worked better. Second, I don't like AK's lyrics. I know they're supposed to be silly and all, but it's just not as fun hearing them from a 40 something year old as a 20 something year old; now it is just silly. Third, don't like Mr. Rubin's production. Is it just me or is this guy overrated? Forth, and this is the most surprising, I didn't like the drum work, or the mix of the drum (that goes back to production). Now normally one of the highlights of a Chili Pepper's album for me are the drums. Mr. Smith is typically one of my favorite rock drummers, but I don't know, something just didn't sound right...
Again, I only glanced through the album, and I know that's no way to properly review it, but 1st impression was just kinda meh.
