Soon after I began scoring the lists, it became evident to me that not enough people voted. Eleven is sadly the most we could get for this one. Maybe we can get more posters for our next list. Anyhoo, this is the scoring system I used:
#1 = 60 #2 = 59 #3 = 58 ............ #48 = 13 #49 = 12 #50 = 11
Also, I gave songs an extra ten points per list that they made over 2. For instance, if a song was on 4 lists, it got an extra 20 points. I'll be putting the amount of lists each song made it on in parenthesis.
So here it comes.

And then "House of the Rising Sun" barely missed making the list by one point.

Great work totalling that sucker up, TPFKAM, uh, Mr. Thunk. ;D
I'm a little sad that Born to Run didn't take the top spot, but since I actually voted for Like a Rolling Stone myself, I can't complain one little bit. And I'm quite surprised by a lot of the great tunes that did make the list ... Runaway in particular!
I think that this poll generated the least response for the following reasons. First off, it takes a fair amount of time to come up with fifty singles. Second, the single is a medium whose time appears to have passed for serious rock and roll fanciers. Luke had an excellent point that this was going to be a list that wouldn't have much at all to do with current bands. We've got a fair number of tunes from the nineties, but is anything here from this decade?
But IMO this list, and particularly the top 25 or so, is as good (and authoritative) as any similar listing I've seen in any "professional" publication.
Nice job all ... and I promise the next poll I do will be a much shorter affair ...

How 'bout Top 10 Albums of this decade? That would surely be a "shorter affair". Or we could do a Top 25 albums of the 90s. Or Top 20 Beatles Songs like we did over on RS.com.

Nice job, Mr. Thunk! That's a pretty decent list - though yes, expectedly, there is a definite slant toward the older tunes. I think you're right, Ken - when you talk singles, I certainly think of the 50s and 60s before I think of anything present-day. It's a concept that's more or less gone the way of the dodo bird. And this was a fairly daunting task... but I, for one, enjoyed it a lot (as frustrating as it was to come up with... and even more frustrating to look back on and think 'I hate this list already!') It's definitely a solid list, and I'm pretty happy to see so many of my choices make the grade. (even if Roadrunner didn't make the list... and Ken, you in particular I think reeeeaaaally need to hear New York City by the Demics - I think you'd dig it a lot.)

Btw, Phil, I've always liked "King Harvest" and "When You Awake." Also, the computer I'm on isn't showing me the album you posted. Is it The Big Pink, or whatever?

Nope ... It is the one that came after "Big Pink"
It's only called "The Band" ...
