So far, to suggest any of VU & Nico, Pet Sounds, or The White Album are better than Ok Computer is way offside.

That album, OK Computer, is as good as OK Computer is. That's purely subjective.

That album, OK Computer, is as good as OK Computer is. That's purely subjective. Not so quick. Just reviewed Volume 11 of set 1 which confirms Ok Computer is actually, in reality, better than 99% of most albums released 30 years prior. Look for yourself.

You're off a few pages. That one starts with "Riley is a punter".

is it possible the greatest album could have been released after 1980? without making a claim as to what it might be, does it seem typical to jump into the vault rather than exploring the possibility that maybe the originators have been surpassed somewhere along the way by somethign more recent? we just always seem to jump right to the 60's. why is that? just curious before I jump in the less popular over done angle.

See that's fair. I hate this let's jump to the same half dozen classics and beat them around because that's what bright music listeners do.
Remain In Light if not the greatest, is every bit as good or better than anything released by The Beatles, Beach Boys, Velvet Underground, The Clash or other assorted go to classics.
Nicely positioned Ndy.

it's better than The White Album, but it can't be the best ever since it's not even Blur's best album.

OK I've been doing some research, crunching numbers and coalating. I've come to the conclusion that Riley is right on more then one count. The greatest album ever made is either Ok Computer or 2112.

BTW I'd like to comend Holzman. He really seems to understand the spirit of this thread. Thank you, good sir.

im sick of hearing about the god damned beatles. the beach boys? fuck no the velvet underground? maybe if youre one of the "cool" people dylan? he wrote some great songs, but never an album full...there were always a few clunkers rush? ummmm......no the best album of all time is whatever you want it to be..... therefore i proclaim that the greatest album ever is: ten songs of pure unrelenting rock and roll fury from two guys who pound for pound deliver more rocking than any of the aforementioned pansies. this is what a rock album should be. no hype. no bullshit. and it has josh homme on it too.

KenH managed to say (in that lengthy post from about a page back) a thousand times better what i was mumbling and sputtering over like a spazztic spazz and trying to say about VU&N.
i wonder if that convinced anyone... or if they're still in denial (re: Shin, Mantis, Riley!)

Yeah, I think perhaps my pro-VU agenda might have been better served if I'd just held back and let Ken take care of it.
Still had a lot of fun with that whole thing though.
