Dolly,
Thanks for the recap of the show; glad to hear you had a good time. Impressive set list as well. I just found out he's coming to the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC on March 20th!!! It's a Monday, and that's a shitty day for a concert, but I'll be there for sure.
About a year and a half ago, I saw John Fogerty at the 9:30 Club, he played 24 songs, and 19 of them were CCR songs. It was one of the best concerts I've ever attended.
A friend of mine bought that MOJO issue for me. I'm so glad the Kinks and Ray are finally on the cover and getting their well deserved props. They even give the Preservation albums good reviews and call them one of rocks "great lost albums". Has anyone here heard those albums?
I can't wait until March 20th!!!

That's great news, Paul! I shouted at him to go to DC - I guess he heard me after all I've been trying to get hold of the Preservation albums for a while now - I always miss out on Ebay. Managed to pick up Ray's new The Tourist EP at his show - also managed to get a proper copy of Arthur, so I'm pleased with my haul of the last few weeks.

Seems Other People's Lives release has been put back to Feb 20th (or thereabouts) here in the UK. :(Would have been nice to get a hold of it before the gig. Was sure that I'd heard a couple of the songs he played before though when I saw him in Sheffield a couple of years ago - which is probable as he wrote most of the songs before he went and got himself shot in New Orleans *tisk*

I'd like to think that you influenced Mr. Davies decision to come to DC Glad to see you got yourself a proper copy of Arthur; I think you'll enjoy it immensely. The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way about the MOJO article was how little they praised Arthur. They seem to think Something Else is better, and that's just completely wrong. IMHO Arthur is the best album the Kinks ever recorded. Have you heard Preservation? I have both acts, and while I enjoy them (Act 1 more so than 2) both have some sloppy moments. It's almost as if some of the songs sound unfinished. They're good, but not Arthur or Face to Face good. Have you checked Amazon.com for the albums? I wrote a review for Preservation Act 1. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000009DI3/qid=1140022551/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/002-7111572-4330400?s=music&v=glance&n=5174

I also blew him a kiss so I'm pretty sure that it was my doing I only picked up the Mojo today so I haven't had time to read more than the first page of the article yet. And as I've just been told off for not getting much work done today, I'd best get on with some... Just checked out Amazon - prices aren't too unreasonable after all. Mgiht have to pick up the two on a super-saver delivery when I get paid. Which is still two whole weeks away, damnit. Well, I can't hear myself think for the nagging - better go do some work or I'll be sorry come Sunday night. Later...

I love those MOJO cover songs albums, I have both the Dylan and The Who ones. If I happen across this one I'll certainly pick it up.

Arthur was barely mentioned in the Mojo article, that's true. Just spied the Pye 10disc set advertised on the back of Mojo. Tempting. There's also the Richard Thompson box set coming out though. Damnit that I'm so broke....
I got the Who one Weeping, but I think I missed out on the Dylan. Did get a Dylan's Highway 61 revisitited revisited though - but I think that was Uncut. Overall I tend to prefer Uncut over Mojo.

I can't believe I'll be seeing a living legend in a relatively small club. I can't even describe how gargantuan this is; seeing a man who literaly changed rock as we know it w/ maybe about 1000 other people. I hope he decides to revisit some Arthur songs; I'd love to hear "Brainwashed", "Shang ri-la" and "Mr. Churchill Says"...I'd loose it. Whatever he plays I'll be happy though. Does he use a full band? Or is it him and the other guy on acoustic guitars?

I know he's done a version of Victoria at some shows in recent times, but he never played any Arthur songs for us, unfortunately. Except for Days, of course, which he's encored with both times I've seen him. He plays with a full band. He plays rhythm, I assume, there was an Aussie lead-guitarist, who's different to the last time - think it might have been a one off. Bass player, drums and keyboard. So yeah, full band. He's more than happy to take requests it seems (he played Harry Rag on request so get near the front and limber up those tonsils!

Haha. Nice one Phil. I used to have some mates who used to partake in that form of heckling. I think heckling Black Sabbath songs at a Portishead concert was the best... Beth politely declined, bless.
