I think considering the baggage of the past they constantly had to fight with their solo works, the four of them turned out alright as solo artists. I think the sheer momentum of The Beatles makes a lot of the early solo records good and I think All Things Must Pass and Plastic Ono Band are definitely the best from what I've heard.

Silly Love Songs isn't nearly as bad as other Paul dreck, such as Coming Up for example, which is redeemed only by its nifty video. the bass work alone in Silly Love Songs makes it worthwhile.

Completely agree w/ya, Achn. I heard Coming Up the other day ... and it's still an awful song. Awful. The live version is slightly more tolerable, but only just.

do you all love Achn's little avatar..when I bought "let it be" I just fell in love with the mats....first time I heard "Unsatisfied" I was hooked!!
Ken et al..interesting observations on the solo careers of the fab four.........accessing the recesses of my memory banks I loved Pauls' first three releases: McCartney/Ram/Band on the Run and the first couple by George (not counting Wonderwall Music)......................then I pretty much stopped following their solo careers after Pauls' Wings over America.........but then Paul had his 1982 gem and Flowers in the Dirt and George had Cloud 9, and there was still some damn good material there......but Lennon I really only got into after his death..and then I grew very fond of POB/Imagine (and Double Fantasy)..but when is all said and done, I kinda got to go with Ken..it was George's and Paul's solo career that most endeared me..closely followed by John....

Bow, that might be the first time ever you got the song title right.

I love "Coming Up" but probably only because it reminds me of my carefree childhood days. I remember a neighbour of mine had the '45 and he'd play it on the weekends practically non-stop. I must admit though, I heard it on the radio about a year ago and it did sound kinda dated...

"Coming Up" is a nice, harmless ditty that's kinda catchy...but the Press to Play album that it's culled from is completely, irredeemably awful. Sentimental favorite of mine is Ram, but it wasn't on the list to vote for so I gave another nod to the Quiet One's masterwork. A good chunk of Lennon's solo output is just plain bad. And I agree with Ken that Ringo is a serious contender. Haven't heard that one in awhile, though...

Oh man, Press to Play was a HORRIBLE record ... every bit as bad as anything Ringo ever recorded ... damn near, anyway. But "Coming Up" was on McCartney II. Another really bad record, but at least it had "Waterfalls," which really was a quite lovely little ballad.

OK, who's the smart-ass who voted for Beacoups of Blues? I'm betting you've never even HEARD that record! C'mon, fess up ...
Ringo covering his mum's favorite songs ... recipe for poor album sales in 1970.

Isn't Thorn's last name "Starkey"?

Irreddemably terrible, that one.

Aside from "Waterfalls," I've gotta agree w/you JAC. Really awful record.
