What about Grace Slick fronting Jefferson Airplane? Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company? Phil's favorite Swedish export, ABBA? Patti Smith Group? I love Debbie, but I think saying "first real frontwoman" might be pushing it more than a bit. I didn't word that properly. Granted, Debbie wasn't the first frontwoman, she was just the first frontwoman who was sexy too. All those chicks you mentioned were ugly as fuck... OK, I'm 100% with you on Janis Joplin and Patti Smith (though Please Kill Me makes it obvious that at least part of Patti's initial appeal in NYC clubs had to do with her enormous boobies), but the ladies in ABBA weren't exactly unattractive ... and Grace Slick was an absolute knock-out in the sixties! I mean, she was like to die for beautiful. With a killer on-stage presence and attitude, a great voice, and as much (or more) arrogance and rock and roll bragadocio as any of her male contemporaries. Grace was awesome in the sixties ... too bad those years of hard living and poor aesthetic choices turned her into a joke in the next two decades. Today, she's a very cool former rocker.

Grace Slick was hot? She has one of the ugliest mouths I've ever seen on a woman. I have to say though, the first time I saw her was in one of those 80's Starship videos so you can understand why I find it hard to believe she was actually attractive 20 years or so before that.
btw, she looks a lot like Cher [Sonny & Cher era] in that pic.

They don't really count. They lacked charisma. They just had sweet little voices. [Although I will admit the blonde one was also a very early crush of mine. Right before Wonder Woman aired of course, and then it was all about those stars on her butt. Oh, and those.....]

Why doesn't Fleetwood Mac count?

Because Lindsey Buckingham was really the frontman for Fleetwood Mac. Seriously, I don't know why ... during their glory years you're talking 'bout a band with three lead singers, two of whom were women. Seems like they should be eligible. Still not as good as X, though. ;D

Yeah, not putting Fleetwood Mac and including The Human League don't make much sense... those chicks only sing lead on a few tracks. That dude does almost all of the singing.
