Rush completely aside, can we please stop propping Jimmy Page up as some sort of musical craft master. Last time I saw him he was drooling on himself in a Diddy video and whoring Kashmir.

Well, if truth has to be told...
I'd rather have Pink Floyd a million times over Rush- it compares for mine to a five course meal to a Macca's-burger. As much as people can deride Pink Floyd or pull it apart in the Syd vs Roger vs Gilmour-years, it will always be a band that singularly has made a humongous impact in my appreciation of prog-rock in general. I'll not be so childish to write Rush in the ground out of spite for they have made some great music too ('2112' and Moving Pictures are classic) but even though musical comparisons may be quite void, they never had the same kind of diversity the Floyd employed. True, they are craftsmen and have probably one of the best skinsmen in the business but where the love for music so often is determined by the heart, it is no contest for mine.
For mine Led Zeppelin weren't a major band but I appreciate them. Same goes for the Stones. think they're much better musically than Kiss who are quite fun and enjoyable but so is taking a shower after a hot summer's day.

Amen, Drum. I actually voted for it on the Rush Songs thread. But I was voting for the live version on Exit Stage Left. Would you agree with me that that one's a lot better? Actually, no objection to the ESL version despite the rap that record’s gotten over the years, but I always go back to the original version. I'll not be so childish to write Rush in the ground out of spite for they have made some great music too ('2112' and Moving Pictures are classic) but even though musical comparisons may be quite void, they never had the same kind of diversity the Floyd employed. Geez, I don’t know, maarts. If you and I were to sit down with the Rush catalogue, and map out the various genres and styles of music that they've incorporated into their music or in which they've worked, we would note Zepplinesque rock, progressive rock, the madrigal, 'new wave' pop, reggae, ska, various types of electronica, jazz fusion, classical guitar, funk, grunge and even an ill-advised foray into rap. Not sure Floyd could match, let alone top, that.

Pink Floyd "only" invented a big chunk of a new Music genre ...
Not sure Rush could match, let alone top, that !!

Waters and Gilmour have it all over those two. I'll second. Or third that.
Am I ostracized from this community now?

Well, I don't think Pink Floyd invented boring art rock but they sure perfected it.

Oh yeah, Riley, if by "shit" you mean the greatest rock band in history then I agree....except for the Bon Jovi part, they're shit in the more traditional sense.

Certainly, we can all at least agree on Bon Jovi.
I'd rank them as the worst rock band in history.
And there's a lot of competition there...
I mean, they're up against Limp Bizkit...Nickelback...Creed
I think I just had an anyeurism typing those out

Yeah Bon Jovi are the worst. Hands down.
The Stones on the other hand have only been shitty for the last 26 years. Should have qualified that.

Pink Floyd "only" invented a big chunk of a new Music genre ... Phil, I might or might not agree with you on that point, but I don’t really see it having any bearing on musical diversity.
