I'm still undecided. It's sort of like having to choose between being poked in your right eye or your left eye.

No way, that's way easier. I have better vision in my right eye, so I'd rather not risk injury to that one.
As for REO vs. Styx, that's just impossible. I guess REO gets the edge for not having recorded "Lady".

I'm going Styx. I got Paradise Theatre as a gift at the same Xmas I got Private Eyes by Hall & Oates. I still think of it endearingly as the "Musical Xmas Massacre of '82".
REO Speedwagon actually had some decent songs before releasing Hi Infidelity which signalled a move down to sub embarassing.
Styx on the other hand always had the cheese factor but got better and peaked with PT before the whole Mr. Roboto thing happened.
The vocal and guitar lead in for "Rockin' The Paradise", in proper perspective, is actually pretty cool.

The fact that you can even imagine the proper perspective to appreciate Rockin' the Paradise scares me ... ... of course, I owned that cassette when I was about 15 or so, too. So I guess the proper perspective is rock and roll starved northern male adolescents, who'd listen to almost anything with a claim to "rock." Thank god I discovered punk after that ...

I hear ya Ken. I moved on to Ozzy & Sabbath soon there after, along with Maiden and Priest. So that "rocking" intro lost whatever lustre an 11 thought he heard.

Though I do have a copy of Paradise Theater here at the store with a really cool lasar etching on one side. I might go with Styx just because of that.

Doc Drum will get a charge out this story.
In the late 80's I heard a classic 70's track on the radio called "Flying" and was absolutely certain it was Styx. Cheeseball city, call it a full on guilty pleasure, but I had to find it. There was no way it wasn't Styx. No one I could ask. I was still buying a lot of used vinyl, so I bought every fucking Styx album before I found out the song was by a Canadian band called Prism.
So yeah, I have the whole Styx catalogue because I'm too stubborn or proud to ask for help.

I think I must have been going through some collector phase at that time, where I had to buy every album by every artist, because I distinctly remember owning Foreigner records from a period in their career when no one should have been buying their records.
Truth be told, I guess one could say that their first record and everything after actually would fall in that category eh?
I remember getting a funny look from the clerk when I bought Agent Provocateur. I deserved it.

So Riley, does this mean you've got the entire Kansas catalog tucked away somewhere as well? ;D

Uh, well, I have Point Of Know Return and I'm not ashamed of it. Don't get me started on Toto- I quite like their new album and I'm gonna see them next month!
Styx for mine because I have only heard one REO Speedwagon-album in my life and only three Styx-CDs.
