Hey Bow, I'm digging through the dust and debris here in POTD central, and I'm coming up kind of short ... the only thing I can put my hands on right now that's in any kind of decent shape is a coupon for a complete mp3 download of the entire Rush catalog. I'm assuming that you'll pass on that?

Yep, bow deserved POTD, no question about it. His Rush comments, disguised by his witty sense of humor, were 100% spot-on.
btw, are Rush also responsible for the classic "Mr. Roboto"? Because all of that album had that cheesy, synthy 'Roboto' vibe to it.

You know, I didn't listen to Moving Pictures before putting it up on SendSpace ... I just said that if Bow wanted to hear Rush, he should do so via file sharing rather than (wasting) his hard earned dollars on 'em. I really expected at the time that someone else was going to jump in and volunteer to hook him up, but when no one did (and I had the time), I hopped over to Oink and d/l'ded a rip of what I'd always thought was their best LP (both of the ones I'd heard and via critical concensus). Maybe I should leave my fond memories of Moving Pictures back in grade nine, and not risk actually having to digest it now. But if you think Moving Pictures was bad, you almost owe it to yourself to try to sit through crap like Fly By Night or 2112 ... or (even worse) "The Trees." Utter dreck. "The Spirit of Radio" is still a killer single, though, and so is "New World Man." I'd YSI those to you, but I just have the former via an official iTunes copy, and don't own the latter (our local rock station still has Rush in semi-regular rotation, so I can hear 'em enough just via the morning show).

From skvor yesterday, I nominate this as post of the day - classic! I can think of worse things to emulate. Morrison's love for the Beats really didn't bother me especially when you consider the lyrical content of a lot of the decade. Was his stuff childishly dark? Absolutely. But it's better than "Mrs....whatever, you have a lovely daughter". For a band as big as they were, they got away with some weird stuff. Sure, there were better bands in the decade like the 13th Floor Elevators or The Velvet Underground, but there wasn't anything there until a myth was built around it, much in the same vein as the Doors. And by the way, I think Lou Reed is just as much a stupid-drunken-sometime lyrically-devoid-c.h.u.d.-moron as Morrison. If not even more so. Just because you suck dick and hang out with Andy Warhol, doesn't mean you're a genius.

Skvor's post was good, but it wasn't up to the same level that Bow's was. IMHO, which is all that matters for this award, anyway. You guys need to get cracking on today's efforts, though, 'cause I plan to pick a new POTD some time early this evening. As it stands now, it could go to a title tag entry or something.

No prob skvor! That post you wrote, especially the end of it was fuckin' hillarious.
Ken, yeah, you're right though about Bow's post - his write up on Rush was fanfuckintastic.

It's still early in the day ... and it's been a tight competition, but I do believe we have a winner. Taking home POTD honors for 6/6/7 is the man who has an uncanny resemblance to the Son of God ... JLLM: Post-rock Texans, eh? I have an idea - you could do that song where you start out really quiet but then gradually add more and more guitar and suddenly... BANG, oh yeah, baby! It's 9 minutes in and now you're really going to let it all hang out for precisely 73 seconds of mayhem!!!... before boring the tits off everyone with 4 closing minutes of droning, semi-ambient nonsense in 12/8 time. Are you going to play that one? I'd feel bad for not having some sort of prize on hand for him, but since he gets to go home to one of England's finest young women, well, I do believe that he's got quite enough in the way of rewards.

OK, as threatened ... another POTD w/o an extended vacation between honorees ... This is an award shared by all involved, including RocDoc, which made me chuckle when I saw it in RD's post today ... Would Natsumen be considered post rock? I would consider Natsumen to be post-rock. And Awesome. I wanted to shout 'POTD!' for thorn's last one there, but it ain't much good without the rest... LMFAO!!! So all you guys involved can share in ... [hunts around for appropriate prize package] ... um, this half-chewed box of bubble-gum I found inside a desk drawer here at POTD central. Or maybe you should just have a big Rush listening party or something instead.

Methinks POTD-central needs a good restacking....
I'd like to nominate this little pearl- RocDoc reviews Aretha Franklin's Live At Fillmore West and harks back on a few metal-releases in the previous posts:
"She could have buried Rotting Christ AND John Christ back on March 5th, 6th and 7th, 1971."

RocDoc takes POTD honors for the weekend for that gem -- like maarts I read that and thought it was a great line to describe the magnificence of Aretha live in her prime. RD, ThoRn just claimed the last of my half-chewed bubblegum, so ... um, here's a gift certificate worth $50 Rileybucks, if you can find anyone who'll still take those things. Rileyinflation has rendered them pretty much worthless these days -- that banker has been printing 'em so fast they're worth about the paper they're printed on.

...it'll go right into my collection along with with the Mussolini liré and the Hitler deutschmarks.
But I thanks ya's!
I mean even that piece of gum would've been worth at least 30 billion liré, back in the day.....
