...if you're paying any more then 14.99 at most for a single disc, you're insane. It's rare that I price a CD higher then 12.99 - 13.99.

Also, buy an iPod and paying them a hundred bucks to have them put a new battery in is super sucker right there. I can go to a good used audio shop and get a decent amp for that price. Man, the whole iPod thing is just a big rip off to me. Quick question, after I get the amp, then what? I download three thousand songs on it, put it in my pocket, and take it for a jog? Or maybe I should strap a record player to my back when I go bike riding? Who are you talking to? No one here is one of those assholes who got an iPod and sold their record collection. I'm pretty sure everyone here with an iPod has a more than decent sound system at home. Just because I have a nice amp doesn't I can't own an iPod. It's not one or the other. You're missing the hulking, massive elephant staring at you right smack dab in the middle of your living room called "portability." Most of us here, I'd wager, have great set-ups in the house, but we can't carry that shit around. ded seems to understand that he, personally, doesn't need an iPod because he works in a record store, but the idea that you spend your time around equipment where some of us take bus rides to cubicles doesn't seem to register with you. MP3 players are great for commutes. For exercise. You may not get the quality of a $2000 set-up, but it beats the hell out of the sound of some asshole on a cell phone, passing cars, or Sean fucking Hannity jabbering away on the TV while you're hitting the treadmill at the gym. Everyone here views MP3 players as extensions of their music experience, not replacements for. So I don't see where you're going with "you could just buy an amp instead," unless you have really big pockets.

Um, Luke, I'm one of the few people that just doesn't give a fuck about portability. Not everyone cares about portability or turning their life into one big "portable" dimension.
Don't Care.

Dude, Waterloo records, End of an Ear.....
Ded, I'm spoiled, I'm in the land of cheap vinyl called Austin. I totally realize that and yest I have been trained to hear the difference.
I just can't get into the iPods. I have never in my life ever seen something that is so far removed from the experience of music for me. It's cold, it's small, it's completely personality-less and yes I prefer the elephant in the living room as opposed to some small piece of plastic shit, 3000 Sloan songs or not.

Which is exactly my point. There's plenty of shit I don't care about, either, doesn't mean I can't appreciate its merits for others.

That's great if you do but I can still think it's stupid. I just can't relate to the reasons that you like it and it's not like I'm not going to respect them, I just don't understand them and I don't want to understand. So yeah, on this issue I am a closed minded old fuddy duddy and totally proud of it.

As you have every right to. Besides, iPods are excellent targets for taking jabs at. People can get real defensive about their iPoddiness. Hmmm... I wonder why~?

I've yet to dive into iTunes. Whenever I listen to music on my computer I use winamp exclusively, where I've put everything into the media library there. Should I really bother using iTunes, or is there no point in doing so? For the time being, I don't intend on 'buying' digital music online so I can't see really what iTunes has to offer me that winamp doesn't already do.

I actually like WinAmp and there are also other things out there like F-Tunes, which is a freeware thing very similar to iTunes. Honestly........it doesn't really matter. It's all about the preferences.

I've never used any jukebox software other than iTunes myself. It's free, and seemlessly integrated into the OS (I use Macs, remember?), and I honestly don't know what else (if anything for my computer) is out there.
I do agree that it's ultimately about personal preferences, as I'd imagine that most of the feature sets are pretty similar.

Also, Happy Birthday, luke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks man, I'm hungover as all hell right now. Winamp and iTunes are the best big-name players I've used. RealPlayer is great for porn video clips, but fucking awful for music. Jukebox is an absolutely horrible program, constantly freezing up and erasing playlists. ... I'm still a skeptic with iPods, as I think all the visual medium stuff is ridiculous, but mp3 players in general I think are one of the best things that ever happened to my music listening.
