So I don't see where you're going with "you could just buy an amp instead," unless you have really big pockets.
LoLoLoL !!

I don't have an iPod, if only because I like to run in silence and I have an amazing stereo system for my computer at home. I do have Portable XM radio for when I need some walk about music. That shit beats an Ipod any day.

Now satellite radio is something that I really dig on.

Satellite radio does absolutely nothing for me. I hate the idea of paying a monthly fee just to listen to music that someone else has picked out. I know that there's some cool stuff on it, but it'll be a looooooooooong time before I spring for one, and the associated monthly fees.

I had XM for a while but cut it out of the budget. It was pretty great though. I might have to get it again when next baseball season starts.

I got into to it for the Talk shows, the sports, and the BBC, not that much for the music, though I have been made aware of several bands through that medium at an astounding rate. Their 20th Century Classical stuff is quite awesome as well.

See, I just wouldn't listen to S-Radio that much. I listen to one of the local morning shows when I'm in the office or on the road before 10:00 a.m. I listen to NPR shows at noon some days, and usually check out at least part of All Things Considered as I'm wrapping up my day at the office. Other than that, I've got iTunes/iPod going.
If I'm at home, I've got enough television channels to keep me amused, and of course there's the iTunes thing again, and all those CDs and DVDs sitting on the shelf. I just wouldn't listen to S-Radio enough to justify the cost.

It's the same as the iPod for me really. I listen to CDs or NPR in the car, I listen to CDs and records in the store all day...and honestly I don't listen to much music at home anymore other then to skim through an album I just downloaded or a mix I just burned. I just don't have a need for satelite radio either.

I love satellite radio WAY more than I ever could an iPod. They play pretty much everything on my playlist and tons more. Nothing's better than getting exposed to tons of new music that isn't the same ol' Pitchfork approved yada that I read/hear about every day. And that's just the rock stations, I listen to tons more than that.
XM keeps me outside of my box and into tons of bands I wouldn't hear otherwise. And there's a thrill you get hearing an awesome song on the radio that you just don't have with your own playlist on random.

Luke's right. The exposure to new bands is worth the 12 bucks a month.

I went for a run this morning with my older, slightly more banged up iPod strapped to my arm. It died only 3kms in. Just died smack bang in the middle of my Awesome Running Playlist. Bastard.
