Aw, thanks Drum, I love you too.
I'm guessing the Polaris Prize is like the Candian version of the Mercury Prize? I've never really given much credence to awards (except for the Rileydog Awards of course!), but I guess they're fun to argue about.
But they named the prize after the Tokyo band, right?
Right?

That's exactly it, Ryosuke. Vive l'orientalism libre. Or something like that...

Off the island.

I guess I don't even make it onto the island, considering I have no interest in even hearing that album. That's probably unfair, but that's just how disappointed I was at Hillside. On the other hand, I still can't even believe how good this album is (despite the lukewarm reception from the knuckleheads at Pitchfork.) But as much as I love it, it makes me sad that I don't own anything else by them. Where do I go from here, boys?

tunes, I’ve haven’t picked up all their stuff yet but I would say No Cities Left would be your next logical stop. Excellent, unapologetically pretentious pop that at least half the time nails it – and on the other half takes it just a tad too far over the top. Fair warning, though: your aversion to Morrissey may give you pause because Lightburn unabashedly adores him here.

Thanks Drum. I'll keep the Morrissey thing in mind. Think I'll probably be able to deal. I've been listening to Plumtree a lot lately, and I think I've realized once and for all that they're my favourite of bands to come out of Halifax in the mid-90s. This album, in particular never fails to sound absolutely perfect to my ears. Is it weird that, six years after the fact, I'm still really sad that they broke up?

I had no idea this group existed. How did I not know about them? Thanks Drum! Now I wish I lived in Vancouver. This year they played there with Stars, Isobel Campbell AND the Constantines. Not all at once, thank heavens - that much goodness in one night would make me explode. Think I might have to order that EP...

Got the download version of the EP from Zunior a while back. Quite decent lo-fi pop - Diabolica's a little gem, in fact. Lots of potential. Curious to see what they'll come up with for a full length. BTW, tunes, speaking of Stars – and while we're on the subject of unheralded albums – have you heard this yet? Quite a dreamy little between records follow-up to Set Yourself On Fire.

I keep reading about Memphis, Dr Drum, but this is the first I've actually heard them. They've been on my 'check these guys out' list for a little while, but I seem to be falling behind on that list as of late. Based on these tracks, though, very nice. Sounds right up my alley. Think I'm making a trip to the record store later this week (just because) so I think this is something I'm going to have to pick up. Like my list wasn't already long enough...

That Memphis track is kinda up my alley too, believe it or not.
*Desperately trying to fit in with all the Canadian nationals here*
But yeah, I like it.

*hands Ryo a toque and a beer* You're one of us, alright. ~ I need you all to feel my anger. I just looked at the calendar for my favourite dive bar back home. We're heading up on Saturday for the long weekend and I was hoping there'd be someone there I'd want to see. There isn't. However... please look at who's playing on October 17th. Exactly one week to the day after we leave to come back to Toronto. That's right. Sloan is playing in a tiny bar with capacity of about 200 people in my hometown - and I won't be there. A tiny bar where the "stage" is nothing more than a platform elevated about a foot off the ground. Where if you jump too high, you'll hit your head on the ceiling. Where Labatt 50 sells as well as Keiths. And I won't be there.
