Doc - what do you think of In Flight Safety. I think we saw them open for The Cons and Wintersleep. I like this song/video, and I enjoy the new album enough, but I can't help but wonder if Halifax needed a band that sounded that much like Coldplay. Jesus. mms://peteforde.com/zuniorvideo_in-flight_safety.wmvNo one needs a band that sounds anything like Coldplay.

That album's already out in Ireland, Doc? Explains why she's doing so much touring there right now I guess. That and ancestral links on her father's side, I believe. Re: In Flight Safety - I actually picked up their disc (they're signed to Dead Daisy and Emm was pushing them a lot). It's well-done and I like it OK, as well, but yeah, the Coldplay-thing with them is just a little heavy.

Haven't had time to check out all of those yet - but actually came across that Plumtree video yesterday. Sigh. Made me realize just how much I really miss those girls. To this day, their show with the Salteens was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Still bitter I didn't pick up a t-shirt. They were so great, though. I really, really, really wish they'd get back together. And I forgot what a sweetheart the lead singer was - so cute. Sigh. Checking out the rest of those tomorrow for a little more nostagia!

The distinguished-looking gentleman in this link was once a member of a truly seminal Canadian indie rock outfit. Can anyone name the band? Media links, cheese n’ crackers at 11.

Thorny was on to me right away. Most impressive, thorn, and the answer is of course the amazing and highly influential Montréal sludgebilly kings, Deja Voodoo. They’ll never get one of those mawkish Juno tributes but their legacy looms large. Used to show up every so often at NSCAD dances in my first couple years there. Good, good times. Their official web memorial c/w promised media links. BTW, Riley, here’s how you do the hidden link thing: hidden link[/ url ]
Remove spaces, of course...

Blackmail by Contrived. You can tell this is live in Hali too, because the crowd's so fucking loud drunk and rude.

I dug this a lot. A lot a lot. First time I've heard 'em. Haven't made it to the other tracks yet, but this is good stuff.
