Inside Man. God what a waste. It had the potential to go so many good ways yet never took it. No rating I couldn’t be arsed.

Le Grand Bleu *spoilers* beautiful. sad. when jaques makes his final dive and remains to die at the bottom of the sea, my first thought was to pity the pregnant girlfriend he had left behind. then, however, i began identifying far more with jaques than her. he'd been 'making love' to the ocean much longer than he had with her, and its mystery was completely engulfing. according to the little myth/story he'd told her earlier in the movie, about being invited to dwell at the bottom of the sea by a mermaid if a visitor's heart was pure, he passed the test. he was absorbed into the ocean's nirvana. it reminded me of a moment i experienced on the north shore of the great salt lake last winter while visiting the spiral jetty. i had walked far out into the shallow water. (i really need to get some rubber boots so i stop turning my feet to popsicles...) the day was kind of wispy and gray. the water was a still mirror. flocks of birds kept falling out of the sky and then fading back into low hung clouds along the horizon. everything was so still and silent and expansive and beautiful. i had walked out for a mile or so when i paused to take everything in again. i felt like i could just keep walking straight into some kind of silvery death. i didn't feel any sadness really, unless it was 'old joy' ... just an overpowering sense of awe. i cried tears made of awe. the empty fullness of the place was so beautiful. still, i eventually turned around and went home. i guess my heart was not pure enough for that kind of death.

I watched most of The Two Towers on TNT (I think) on Sunday afternoon ... you know, those are fabulous films, but they are all just too fucking long! Can I get an edited LOTR that breaks it into nice 90 or so minute chunks? Sort of a "short attention span edit" for us types who don't like/don't have time to spend 3+ hours watching a movie?

On my computer - Jackass 2
At the movies - Bobby
I almost never watch movies on TV. TV is for sports.

Tell me about it. I managed to do all my christmas shopping and a monthsworth of laundry, and catch the last 20 minutes in the time it took JLLM + Junior to watch Two Towers last week.

American Psycho.
Which I must say I can relate very dearly to. Can't begin to elaborate how many times I've wanted to kill Wall Street bigshots just because they have better business cards than me.

American Psycho is a blast! Favorite scene when he dispatches the one co-worker:
"Do you like Huey Lewis and the news?.....their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consimante professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.
"....In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself."
