Well, it seems I have turned the corner on a long, unhappy time for me. I begin a new job Monday, starting up and heading the automotive program / department at a state community college here. Geez, it's been a six-month drought -- my unemployment benefits ran out last week! I thought the interview went OK with the committee et al last week, and then the president called me this morning to make the offer. Quite scary starting up a program from scratch - I've never done that before! But I'm prepared to give it all I've got - revive some of the old network, call in a few friends or favors. But I think it will be good to teach again. I will be able to use the online program I developed for my previous employer, because the state has already licensed it for use in state colleges, so that will help me a bit. Anyhow, as scared as I am, I am breathing a sigh of relief this evening. I was getting close to the end of my rope!

Thanks, I appreciate it, Skvor and Thorn. I'm gonna be busier than a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest for the foreseeable future, though!

since january 21st my mom's been on a steady decline, helped along (unfortunately) by the local medical community's unforgiving fuck-ups.
she died this morning.
in this case 'a better place' does apply, because there was no way she was coming back...
ouch.

My greatest heartfelt condolences R____, to both you and all of your family. I tried giving you a call last Saturday to see how things were going....didn't leave a message or anything.
I know what it's like to have a parent go through a protracted illness (and deal with the local health"care" issues). I so remember too when the doctor made that walk into the hospital waiting room and told us my father had passed. My first words were: "Well, there's peace,,,,there's peace"
May your mother have the same.
