I knew it! Oh, believe me -- I bought that vinyl version of the Widow single, with FTM title track on it -- the day it came out.
And I told my closest friend here -- that in my opinion (this was totally deductive guesswork on my part) -- the reason we couldn't find the "Deluxe" edition on March 22nd, was cuz there must've been a delay in trying to get the tracklisting to fit reasonably across 6 sides of vinyl. I even went so far as to suggest that Cedric and Omar may have decided to scrap plans on an "all-inclusive (i.e, 6 song) vinyl version, as originally announced.
Now I find my intuition was dead on! With this verified, I am glowing with pride at having bought that vinyl single, and then this LP. For only yesterday I was thinking to myself -- that most likely the "Definitive" version on vinyl I had coveted so dearly was comprised of the LP and the vinyl single. And now I see this is most definitely the case.
It's a 4 - disc set, in other words.
From what I understand -- the title track FTM is actually the true beginning of the album, is it not -? (As opposed to fitting in between the Widow and L'via-?) That's the way I see it all fitting together -- the way the title track ends with that haunting acoustic guitar passage which opens up the album proper.

YES it's been described as the true begining as read in my Interp on page 3
I wish I could combine all the theories I have seen reguarding storyline(some are amazing pieces of storytelling, light years beyond my primintive Interp.)
MAYBE after Friday's show,I'll put a list together I know I'll hear at least 10 more just in line

Man, you lucky dawg - - - you're gunna have a blast on Fri. Is it gen admission -? Or do you have GA/floor tix -? When I saw TMV open for APC last year, lucky thing we had floor tix, cuz I pushed my way right up to the very front for the Volta, and good thing I did -- the show was captivating and electric -- but most who sat way in the back did not get near as good a sound quality as I did, and consequently remained unimpressed by TMV. Of course - most of em weren't avid fans like you and I -- so they wouldn't "get" em anyway. But the show was spectacular -- I believe you already read my write up of it located here: rsdotcomchampionsmusicclub.blogspot.com/2004/09/mars-volta-perfect-circle-live.htmlIn any case, I'm certainly looking forward to hearing all about it, come next week-!

Here is the true format of the 'director's cut' ed. of tmv's FTM (after all the confuzion): It is indeed 6 sides of vinyl - ninety one minutes longabouts. WIDOW single/vinyl + FTM LP/vinyl = sides A through F Curiously, side F on the LP appears to be a Rorschach imprint on black vinyl of the extended configuration of the twisted tree's root system that guy's crawlin along -- there is no discernable music recorded on this sixth side. Why omar & cedric couldn't have simply been content with imprinting side 'A' with the Frances the Mute title track, that would've resulted in Cassandra Gemini occupying the 3rd LP disc to itself - on sides 'E' and 'F' - what's to dislike about that -? Well it's a pretty badass imprint on that side -- scary cool widow ep / vinyl = $6.99 frances the muteLP=24.99 --we're cuin it up |

Frances The Muteside 1 -- FRANCES THE MUTE a.in thirteen seconds b.nineteen sank; while six would swim c.five would grow and one was dead side A -- CYGNUS....VISMUND CYGNUS a.sarcophagi b.umbilical syllables c.facilis descenus averni d.con safo THE WIDOW side B -- L'VIA L'VIAQUEZ side C -- MIRANDA THAT GHOST JUST ISN'T HOLY ANYMORE a.vade mecum b.pour another icepick c.pisacis (phra-men-ma) d.con safo side D -- CASSANDRA GEMINI a.tarantism b.plant a nail in the navel stream side E -- CASSANDRA GEMINI (cont) c.faminepulse d.multiple spouse wounds e.sarcophagi - - - - - - - - - six sides of audial bliss brass instruments such as flea's trumpet solo on the widow sound so much better, in particular adrian terraza's tenor sax solo in GEMINI -- totally worth the price of vinyl admission alone. wow It's as if I heard it for the first time -- and get this -- the ends of sides A, B, C, and D -- the 2 'con safo's and the 'navel stream' - all end in a closed loop! We thought it was a skip at the very end of side A, but it turned out to be an endless loop designed to solve the problem of preserving album length continuity -- if the sides merely ended properly, with the needle lifting and the arm returning to it's cradle, the chances the ongoing party may continue on having abandoned the album altogether are quite high, when you think about it. This way each of the sides end in a more exquisitely timed loop than the last -- and the final side 'E' -- finally allows the cycle to come to an end, as the needle is lifted and the the arm brought down to rest, bringing silence down firmly in a closed curtain at last. ~ fin ~ ... a bravura performance in every sense of the word; highest rating possible

Oh man, I just bought 3 tix to see AN EVENING WITH THE MARS VOLTA @ The Fillmore in freaking DENVER COLORADO on MAY 31ST babies!!!!!!! \m/ Holy shit, I'm stunned . . . . last night hearing FTM 'Director's Cut' was simply out of this world . .. (certainly would not have been that cool if it weren't for my quad liquid cooled speakers + 330-watt Quadraphonic Pioneer Receiver pumping that sound through and thoroughly blowing us away) I turned off ALL THE ELECTRICITY in the apartment, all the lights, computer off, the only thing on was the Stereo as we sat in total darkness surrounded by this audial assault, and YES absolutely the vinyl version is SO MUCH BETTER than the CD -- I did not really believe it was going to be -- because the CD is so crisp and powerfully loud -- however, it is NOTHING compared to the fullblown organic majesty of hearing this channeled properly through an expanded-dynamic range diamond needle - (that also contributed greatly to the sonic mastery) - and all I can say is there is absolutely no doubt left in my mind that Frances The Mute is the Definitive "Masterwork" of 2005 -- I seriously cannot imagine ANY album being released that could even touch it. My brother is going to FREAK when he finds out we're going to Denver for this show -! I'm not even going to tell him until later -- spring it on him at the perfect opportunity, a late surprise. We'll be leaving Venice Beach on Monday, Memorial Day, May 30th, driving the 12 hrs back to Salt Lake City -- to crash late that night -- and then early the next morning, we're headed onwards through the mountain passes into Denver -- a 7 hr drive -- to arrive at the Fillmore by 7:00 o'clock to witness the spectacle that will be An Evening With The Mars Volta. I feel this will be a really special show -- sounds like there will be no opening act -- and our tix are GA. Just Perfect.

General Admisson The Tabernacle allows you to get as close to the stage as you can or sit in balcony's that are simular to football seats near the field
btw They just annouced Mars Volta will open for System of A Down on their Summer Tour
Same setlist last night In New Orleans(different order no song changes) I don't really care right now what they play All I know is it's gonna be quite an experience WORK'S OVER ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
**Small Chance I'll get to meet Omar,he's over at the alternative station right now and I'm going in 5 min to the station and my friend I'm meeting is Music Director at said station(I'll share pictures either from there or backstage)

The Mars Volta April 29, 2005 @the Tabernacle Atlanta Ga
Walking up to the Old Church it's just after 5:30 pm 3hrs before showtime.
I had just missed Omar playing his own playlist on the local alternative station(mostly soul and salsa music).
I saw the majority of Comatorians(MV offical Fan message board, who's dedication to this band is 2nd to none)
as I made my way backstage,I saw Jon Theodroe(drummer) and Cedric involved in a serious game of table tennis(ping-pong down south) Cedric won and then posed for pictures with the venue staff
Omar had just arrived back and decided to skip the meet and greet to take a nap due to a headache Ikey(keyboard) told us.
I talked to everyone but Omar for about 5 min each form setlist,The Widow video, the cover story and interview in Filter mag.(NO I didn't ask specfic questions about Frances The Mute)
After getting my tickets signed by the band and wishing them the best rest of the tour I went back outside to socialize with the fans.
I must have talked to at least 40 people and about 25 must have been in line since 2pm and 6 or 7 even said the band gave them passes for showing up even without tickets ;D(they do love their fans)
OK what really matters Doors open 7pm NO OPENING ACT,TTHEY PLAY STRAIGHT THRU NO BREAKS BETWEEN SONGS The curtain in place of the Spider with the Human head( a Max Ernst image) it stretched across the entire stage.
Myself and the 12 people I met up with all waited in a sweaty pit just to hear the opening Strains of "How The West Was One" which has always been MV opening walk-on stage theme.
They made us wait for nearly an hour and half BUT YOU KNOW IT'S GONNA BE WORTH IT.
As soon as the opening horns were played,THE CRUSH from behind as already at the front of the stage you could sense the ROAR building as the balcony's were going insaine with people jumping up and down screaming when you looked up.
A couple bows and the entire stage was revealed as the curtain dropped (2 giant Harpies(half bird-half-man,Max Ersnt agin) decorated the backdrop as it went form the the floors to the ceilling near the strobe lights)
The PIT ERUPTION from behind was like nothing I HAVE EVER SEEN,I looked back to see some people trying to crowdsurf while the middle was sam-wiched between the PIT and CROWDSURFERS and I knew somebody was going down HARD behind us
Is Anybody There? it took at least 4 min to get to Cedric's question and the lyrics came flying right after along with The Bodies from the back as Drunkenship of Lanterns opened the scene
Drunkenship went on well past it's extended version mostly from the build-up and as with most Mars Volta shows I have heard on bootlegs where the next song ends and begins is up to your interpetation but know It's SO POWERFUL you don't even really notice because your either dancing or Too IMPRESSED TO CARE.
The HARDCORE MV FANS went nuts(myself included) when "Concertina" tangled in thorns/ we walk unborn begain being repeated by Cedric whose voice and antics were in top form. Cedric began to slide himself like a stripper does a pole sideways on his mic stand.
Ikey really shined as did Juan on sax during "Concertina/Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt Take the Veil was clearly the crowd favorite of the night and Omar danced a couple passages like he was a Young Santana Cerpin went on for at least 15 min
Then it was time for Frances to be heard They skipped the begining of Cygnus(Sarcophagi) and jumped right into the Spanish open(nino preparate/child prepare) The entire crownd was singing alone except for Cedric's screams the bridge changes were Amazing (the highlight the change before Bring me this plague Cygnus is a monster Live as every instrument on stage seems to own it's own solo(at least 7-8 min longer, with added lyrics that seem to be clues not just tacted on I haven't decpihred them yet from my SD bootleg)
Cedric becomes much more animated during the FTM tracks for some reason during the solos he appears a pitcher waiting to complete his wind-up as he tangles up his mic chord and keeps pumping never becoming still like he can't wait to sing (Also The Harpies dissapear and are replaced by the MV symbol with the stick figure and v shapped arms)
L'via maybe the highlight of the entire show anything that exlcists head-banging and sexy dancing from females is sure to grab your attention as I participated in the salsa dancing Omar and Cedric just seem to lose all inhbitions and dance like their in front of the mirror and the audience joins in even the people in the balcony particpate(again way extended and all the mic vocal tricks)
Omar btw it's OFFICAL is the BEST GUITARIST I HAVE EVER SEEN LIVE maybe only bested by JONNY Greenwood Omar's better with the foot pedals and has more life than the brit who hides behind his hair.
The Fans waited to see what was next as L'viawinded down again remember NO BREAKS were near the 2 hr mark right now.
IF somebody Falls ,during this Pick them Up Please-Cedric
EXOSKELTON as Cedric held out the Mic YEP it was time for The Haunt of Roulette Dares and just when you thought the crowd noise had peaked the volume of Cedric's voice carried us for another 10-15 min and the energy was within reach you heard every verse perfectly and Jon's druming makes him the IRON MAN he never slows down and you can see up ask the crowd for more between songs.
The segway began that time-travel sound at the end of Cygnus so yes It was the low energy portion of the show as The Widow began to dead silence I'm not kidding and all honesty the momentum the show built tapered off just a smidge. Not until the vocal effects did the crowd come back form it's nap and just in time for
THE GRAND FINALE Cassandra Gemmini You know I can see it happening on this tour after all the peaks and valley's of the sound of a MV show some crowds might not maintain the power and energy, enthusiam throughout a 35 min suite BUT ON THAT NIGHT IN ATLANTA WE were with them for every change, lyric and they felt it on stage,They didn't want it to end and neither did we Not A Single Mosher to be found,Nor Surfer We cheered them on the way up the mountain(I think I've become like one of the others and that triumphant downhill runaway train25 WIVES! MORE BONUS LYRICS AND A Fantastic Light Show throughout as during "There's No Light" the stage would go dark refrain and yet they kept playing to perfection.
After the last mic stand hit the stage and hands were shaken it was nearly 11:30 almost 3 hrs of a MUSICAL ORGASM.The Crowd couldn't even ask for an ENCORE THEY KNEW IT WAS FINISHED Did They Leave Town right after their conquest? NO they hung around till 1:45 am signing, talking with fans outside
I slept all Sat afternoon and 2 days later I Proclaim @ 5pm (Eastern Standard Time) May 2, 2005 THE MARS VOLTA LIVE SHOW IS THE BEST SHOW I HAVE EVER SEEN....... better than NIN Better Than RADIOHEAD BETTER THAN ARCADE FIRE BETTER THAN INTERPOL and even if I go see them open for System of a Down this summer that hour will never match that evening now if I Can just find a DVD OR BOOTLEG I can have a piece of history,I won't soon forget

holy. shit. amigo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! damn I FELT IT sweet writeup I am SO GLAD I got my tix for May 31st The venue in Denver seems a special one I know it is going to be the highlight of my summer Man I could feel the energy coursing thru your review patten - freakin AWEsome! I've been spinnin FTM on vinyl since I got it -- and the inescapable conclusion is that IT IS SUPERIOR TO THE CD IN EVERY WAY- -warmer, and the music like a wonder bra is LIFTED AND SEPERATED, so you can hear/feel every instrument the BRASS in particular is GORGEOUS man I am SO EXCITED right now -! My bro DOESN'T EVEN KNOW yet that I scored these tix! I am waiting for the IDEAL OPPORTUNE TIME to spring it on him. FIRST, I have to TURN HIM ONTO THE MARS VOLTA~! That will be easy. Tim's an old hand at the best bands -- we've seen THE FLOYD together many times, he's just too busily immersed in his WORLD OF ART to pay much attention to new bands as of lateThat is why I am NOT ONLY making a GIFT of the MARS VOLTA show on the 31st, but GIFTING HIM WITH THE BAND ITSELF by gradually playing for him DELOUSED and FRANCES little by little, first from my TURNTABLE in my apartment, then ON CD AS WE DRIVE TO LOS ANGELES, and ONLY AFTER he has DIGESTED the GRANDEUR of this band -- will I FINALLY spring the NEWS on him~! He is going to FREAK

The show I saw last night was more or less exactly the same as the one patten saw, even down to the "pick someone up if they fall down" line, except he said "this isn't the fucking Warped Tour, it's a Mars Volta show!"
Here's what I felt during the show: amazed, bored, enthralled, interested, tired, distracted, jazzed, and impressed. It wasn't as good as when I saw them 18 months ago. They weren't as tight and they noodled FAR too long in their 2 hour set (30 minute opener??? I mean come on, I'm a child of the MTV generation! I should have brought a game boy or something!)
3.5/5 stars.
