The King of Pop...It's times like these when it's easy to look back on the good things a man has done over the course of 50 years. But let us not forget also that he was a freak, most likely a child molester and a really terrible father. I don't know. I say we forget all that crap. Michael Jackson is bigger than Elvis. I do agree that we forget all that crap...see my post on the Jackson board... However I cannot stand with you on the "bigger than Elvis" thing.

Still in Lafayette. Couldn't really afford Memphis permanently, but still get down there once in a while. Going back down in a couple of weeks, actually, to record an EP. Then maybe play around, off of it. Hopefully. I've already been talking to some bar owners around here. Surprised you didn't hear me blasting Thriller and Bad last night 'course I'm sure lots of others were doin' the same.

The OTHER musician who died Thursday: Sky Saxon 03:42 PM PT, Jun 26 2009
The Seeds' lead singer and founder, Sky Saxon, died in Austin on Thursday morning of what his publicist said was an "undiagnosed infection of his internal organs."
Formed in 1965 in Southern California, The Seeds had one big single -- "Pushin' Too Hard" -- which was a Top 40 hit in 1967. The song combines the urgency of garage rock with a dose of psychedelia and anti-establishment lyrics. No wonder it was popular.
After The Seeds broke up in 1969, Saxon joined The Source Family commune. He lived in Hawaii for a time but in recent years had returned to Southern California. Saxon, whose birth date was reported differently by various sources, was believed to be in his 60s.
Up until the end, Saxon was a performing musician, with a new band, Shapes Have Fangs, and plans to tour this summer. [/b] I've been listening to a lot of Ya Ho Wah 13 lately so it came as quite a shock to learn that Sky Saxon had died. Not quite as much of a jaw dropper as Michael Jackson, but almost.

I also wanted to hear a SEEDS album, having only experienced "Pushing Too Hard" and (I think) a cover of "Dirty Water" --- I'll have to pulled out the Nuggets disc Wayved sent me and see if there might be another track on it by them.......
Thorn: I had to look up who Sam Weller was....man, that bookstore sounded like a goldmine. Just reading this description made my mouth water:
Spelunking for books in Sam's basement is one of the great pleasures available in this town. A warren of shelves, chambers, narrow doors and odd steps up and down, it harbors thousands of volumes, all awaiting discovery. Weller, a dynamo of a man who raced around the store giving and filling orders, made it run for five decades before son Tony took over.

Gotta agree that the age of the true "superstar" is over. Once all the current ones are gone, there won't be anyone comingnuo with same kind of recognition and credibility with such a large % of the public.
And MJ was hugely influential, like him or not.
