Ayinger: I am also cautious of Mindcrime II-I read an interview and it sounded interesting, but....I cant see money flying out of my hands for it.....

If it's as bad as the Glenn Tipton/Cozy Powell/John Entwistle-album, then I fear for my sanity.

Man, Thorn, Pitchforkmedia gave the new Mono a less than glowing review. I have also heard from a couple of other people that the record was a bit of let down. I'm going to wait for your opinion before I buy and just see what you think.

Okay, I was aware that The Flaming Lips had some early albums that were a bit more "edgier" than the say The Soft Bulletin or Yoshimi and I even went back a few years earlier to Clouds Taste Metallic.....but then I saw this documentary on the Sundance Channel last week called "The Fearless Freaks" and it made me realize just how OFF THE FUCKIN' WALL this band was! Some of the old footage had them just thrashing out sonic waves and drawing parellels to The Butthole Surfers at the time. So now I'm wanting to tap into a couple of those first albums, namely: Oh My Gawd!!!...The Flaming Lips & In a Priest Driven Ambulanceanyone have experience with either of these???

For some reason I still don't have 'A Hard Days Night' in my collection; that's pretty high on my list.
I still have a few more Kinks albums on the list, maybe. It's been tough for me to listen to how good they were in the 1960's, but so mediocre in the 1970's and 1980's.
Oh, and for some reason I don't have 'Master Of Puppets' on cd, but I do have it on tape.
I need some new music, and I'm trying to get more modern in my listening ways, so I'm listening to more new music, but so far nothing is jumping out at me. When it does, I have a goal to get more albums made within the past decade.

"Master of Puppets" is still a must own as far as I'm concerned. That is a fantastic classic release that hasn't been overshadowed by Metallica's blahness just yet.
There is a lot of good stuff out these days but it depends on your tastes. Really, I have been complaining that my tastes are too broad as I really just haven't been able to keep up.

Yep, I need 'Master' like now! "Battery" and "Orion" are my faves from that album.
I guess my taste are too narrow. I like traditional rock line ups w/ drum, bass, guitar, and insightful lyricist. When a group uses machines to replace those element I feel kinda cheated. Like why bother? I like some electronica, and hip-hop, but more often than not, I want live instrumentation. And w/ many of today's bands I just don't like what I'm hearing. The White Stripes were okay, but I've stated my reasons for not fully embracing them. Kings of Leon are good, and fun, but nothing too new. I like that the Zutons have brought back the sax; that's really cool IMO. BRCM is okay, but I can only take so much of them. Wolfmother is good, but they're like a Black Sabbath tribute band or something. I think all of the new 'the' bands all pretty much blow (Killers, Hives, Strokes, etc...). So for me, trying to find new rock that pushes the boundries, and is interesting and good at the same time has been difficult for me. I mean at the end of the day, I still haven't heard anything to top the Beatles; and that was 40 years ago!

Product DescriptionThis collection goes far beyond a simple career retrospective, with over thirty new songs, from his own versions of songs he gave to other artists to things recorded in the garage with his kids. Also includes Tom's unique interpretations of songs by such diverse talents as The Ramones, Daniel Johnston, Kurt Weill & Bertolt Brecht, and Leadbelly. Each of the three CDs is separately grouped and sub-titled "Brawlers", "Bawlers" and "Bastards" to capture the full spectrum of Waits' ranging and roving musical styles. "Brawlers" is chock full of raucous blues and full-throated juke-joint stomp, "Bawlers" contains Celtic and country ballads, waltzes, lullabies, piano, and classic lyrical Waits' songs, while "Bastards" is filled with experimental music, stories, and jokes. The beautifully designed booklet reproduces Tom's lyrics in the style of a book of old poetry, with twenty pages of never before seen photos.
