Some Sonic Youth album info from Pitchfork:
As previously reported, SY are presently hard at work on the follow-up to 2004's Sonic Nurse. Moore disclosed to CMJ.com recently that the band have settled on the title Do You Believe in Rapture?, with a tentative June release date.
"This record is just a far more straight up rock and roll album for us," he said. "I think the last few albums we've done, especially with Jim O'Rourke in the band, were much more complex just because there was another musical element into the band. The music [had] sort of a darker, twisted, complex quality to it."
Moore continued, "Kim is back to rocking the bass, I'm singing like six songs, she's singing on five, Lee is singing on one, which is sort of a classic kind of set up for us. The songs are real straight up. I wanted to write songs that were going to be straight forward enough for everybody to plug into immediately."
"[Rapture is] definitely a super song record. It's rockers and ballads."

Now that sounds like my kind of Sonic Youth record.

Hope it's a good album; I really enjoyed the last two....What happened to O'Rourke? Will he be producing Wilco's upcoming album?

O'Rourke left the band a few months ago. I think he's probably going to be involved in the next Wilco album, but I don't think that that has been officially announced yet. For now I think he's doing another solo album, and perhaps putting the final touches on the Loose Fur record (although that's probably pretty much done -- just 6 weeks until release!).

O'Rourke did the new Beth Orton (which is really good) and is doing a solo record, a Wilco record, and the Loose Fur record. After that, he will disappear as he is moving to Japan to produce, direct and write Yakuza movies.

I personally think this is going to be a nice kick in the pants for Sonic Youth AND I'm pretty excited about the reissues they have coming out.

YEAH on the MUDHONEY!!! just found out about it the other day -- their last, Since We've Become Translucent was a total winner in my book even with these grunge grandfathers taking a step almost near into psychodelica. Said that the new one continues in that same vein somewhat. heh, I don't care as I'll always hold 'em anyhow to giving us one of the best punches ever recorded with "Touch Me, I'm Sick" !!

Wow, I'd assumed Mudhoney broke up a long time ago.

i just hope they tour for it......and come through wisconsin. You live in Wisconsin, fredrum? I just moved to Chicago a few months ago, and I think sometime in the spring some friends and I will probably take a weekend trip to Milwaukee. Might have to tap your expertise on good places to hang out (if Milwaukee happens to be your expertise).

Guys, go here: www.guillemots.com/Click 'sounds' and watch the 'Trains to Brazil' video. It should tell you 3 things: 1. The bassist probably wants to shag me. 2. It's always wise to include a brass section over a theremin effect on your debut single. 3. Their forthcoming album will be huge.

they sound a bit like some Brit version of the Arcade Fire. and the bassist wants none of you. she's clearly eyeing me.

I just found a superb song by them here: www.myspace.com/guillemotsmusic called "Made Up Love Song". A bit more melodic/balladish than Arcade Fire maybe? This one is like Arcade Fire filtered through Bloc Party's "So Here We Are". Riley would love this shit. Skvor - They're playing Austin March 16th. But you already knew that.

no one seems to like Bloc Party's "So Here We Are"... it might possibly be their most hated song. I've never understood that, personally, but hey, there's no accounting for taste.
