Typically in a year, or over time, music that cultivates indifference will evolve into crap. I would anticipate my crap list growing rather than shrinking.

Yes, I did, sorry Rocky. That Sounds album cover is just too good. I am also in love with their singer and the first one was a fantastic record.

Riley, I always wanted to know what you thought of 10,000 Days. Now I know.
I remember, when that first came out this summer, and you posted on Sedaka that you'd post a review and I never saw it.

Adam - I've started a review for 10,000 Days a number of times, but was never happy with it. I should clarify that my disappointment with the album is more by way of comparison to the standard most of us put against Tool, rightly or wrongly. It's still a very good good album. Also, with all due respect to our fellow Tool fanatics in these parts, I don't think I'm prepared to be quite as critical or dismissive, even after initially being underwhelmed. There is some growth and passion on the album, it's just not as prominent as might have hoped for. Still hoping to write that review some day.

I'm liking the new Placebo a lot more than anything else they've ever done.
Of course, I don't really think much of anything else they've done, so it's not that hard.

I didn't like their new one, then I did, now I don't again.

07. Puffy Amiyumi- Splurge Haha, of all the Japanese acts that released great albums this year (Natsumen, bonobos, Sly Mongoose, Pomeranians etc.), you had to choose them. So the Phoenix is top ten material? I guess I should check it out.

I figure you'd call me out on the Puffy. I'd love to hear some of those other albums, honestly, but Puffy's little kid act gets a shitload of play on XM, which is how I ran into it. I need to hurry up and install this second hard drive so I can get on Oink and steal all that shit.
Phoenix album is great. It's what the Strokes album should have been. No clue why I still prefer that Strokes album.

Oh, in case you don't hear about these kinds of things across the world, XM is satellite radio.

To be honest, I haven't heard anything by Puffy since they were huge here like, what, 8 years ago? They had some respectable songwriters write material for them (Tamio Okuda, Masamune Kusano of Spitz, Yousui Inoue), and their songs made for pretty fun singalongs at karaoke joints, so you can't take that away from them.
If you're really interested, I'd be more than happy to burn some Japanese CDs for you (though I guess you're still pretty caught up with the massive amount of music that Ayinger sent you).

Yeah, but by the time that stuff gets here from Japan, I should be good to go.
I would LOVE for you to send me some more stuff. I'll PM you my addy.

Can't do a proper top 10 yet, but my top 5 thus far would look like this:
1) Mission of Burma - The Obliterati 2) Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood 3) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium 4) Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam 5) Glenn Kotche - Mobile
Lots more that I can't quite sort out yet. This has actually been a pretty good year for music, IMO.

I don't think it's been that impressive. But last year was fucking epic, which may be distorting my view. There hasn't been a year like that for music this decade, maybe just in the past ten years in general.

For me, this year has been better than last year. This has been the year of the rise of the strange as far as I'm concerned. Noise bands, weirdo bands, freak folk bands, psych bands, metal bands.......this has probably been the best year for weird music in decades and I say Thank GOD. I'm getting tired of you pop heads with your Feist records.
My top ten so far is:
1. TV On The Radio-Return to Cookie Mountain 2. Mew-And The Glass Handed Kites 3. The Thermals-The Body, The Blood, The Machine 4. Guillemots-Through the Windowpane 5. The Knife-Silent Shout 6. Scott Walker-The Drift 7. Metalux with John Wiese 8. Liars-Drum's Not Dead 9. Sunn0)))-Black One 10. Boris-Pink
Honorable Mentions Be Your Own Pet Sonic Youth
Still have several more good records to go, especially the new Mastodon.
