To be honest I haven't listened to an entire Beatles album in years...

As much as I love Zeppelin, I have to admit that #1 Page is soooo overrated and #2 Plant has to be by far the worst lyricist to ever be famous in rock music. He might just even be the worst ever. I'm with a ton of people when they say the only reason why the listen to Zep is for the rhythem section. It's too bad those guys didn't just go out on there own and had people get them as a package deal for their records.

Zep is all about Jonesy and Bonham for me. The best rythm section in rock and roll history. Plant is terrible singer but he is one of the greatest front men ever and Page can play the hell out of a guitar but they're nothing without JPJ and Bonham. I agree that Zep had a great rythm section, but Page could easily vear into wanker-land. When he can stay focused, he can be a great guitarist, though. But Plant's singing for Zepellin remains one of the low marks in all of rock and roll. I've actually decided I'd rather listen to Geddy Lee than hear Plant's squealing like a stuck pig again. I really hate Led Zepellin, for lots of reasons which I'm sure I've gone into in previous posts. I'll give them their due as an extremely influential band, but when most of the acts you influenced sucked (IMO), and you suck (again IM ever so HO), well, frankly you're just not gonna get much love from me.

lets' see..(I just joined this thread)
(1) Rod Stewart---most anything after Blondes Have More Fun.....amazing talent and personality that just went asunder
(2) Paul Weller--Except for a few cuts on each album, most anything with Style Council....Capaccino kid...indeed!!!
(3) David Bowie---White Tie, Black Noise...a real yawnfest.......
(4) Iggy Pop--Instinct.....too much effort to be heavy metal....same with
(5) Aztec Camera.......Roddy Frame was a great talent but after their 3rd LP/EP seemed to stray into MOR-land
(6) Led Zepplin----everything after Houses of the Holy....became a parody of themselves
(7) Steely Dan--had great stuff early on but their post-90s work is utterly mundane
(8) The Clash--Cut the Crap...oy vey, what was Strummer thinking?!!!!
(9) Rolling Stones--off and on since Tattoo You......some OK ones (Bigger Bang, Voodoo Lounge, etc. but some real clunkers)
(10) The Jam--This is the Modern World...very pedestrian, given it's couched between their wonderful debut and fantastic follow-up (All the Mod Cons)

Bow -- great call on This is the Modern World. There's the title track ... and that's pretty much it for this LP, which practically defined the words "sophomore slump." Even the decent songs (I think Standards was originally on this) were better played live. Only for the seriously fanatical ... which means I'm pretty sure I still have this on cassette somewhere, and will be buying it on disc at some point. It is the only really bad Jam LP, though.

concur Ken..I was just watching the 2-DVD jam live/singles/etc this weekend, and could only think "damn, wish I saw them live circa 1979!!!"......but their sophomore LP I listened at most twice or thrice.........and Sound Affect a zillion times!!!!

OK, OK...I sorta misunderstood.
Beatles For Sale, not 'bad' but weak-er.
See, this is why I can't put together any sort of a list for music where 10 albums which I really enjoy can have a quantifiable difference to place one at # 1 and one at #5 and one at #10...the way you guys seem to be able to do at the drop of a hat.
...and such derision for Mr Moonlight. Shit, if just for the historical value (the MopTops showband Tin Pan Alley years) aside from Lennon's IMO excellent handling of the material. So it's old-timey, so what...it IS the era that the Beatles bookended y'know.

Robert Plant a horrible singer in his youth? Are you people serious? I suppose Springsteen's razorblade monotone voice is better... or his endless list of songs about cars, chicks and the darkness...

Wow, giving Rod Stewert credit through Blondes Have More fun is pretty forgiving. I don't go past Smiler and even it isn't all that good. 1975 is last year he did anything worth listening to, he needs Ron Wood.
