You can expect between 60 to 65 seats for the Bloc québécois in next week election !!
Stupid, stupid Liberals ...
only good news is that it will be the end for Paul Martin ...

Yeah, the Liberals are headed for a major meltdown in Quebec. No doubt the knives will be out for Paul Martin, even if he manages to squeeze out a minority but at this point, I think he could still recover from all this. He'll have to become a lot sharper than he's been since he took over, mind you.
They couldn't wait to get rid of him last fall but what the Liberals wouldn't do for someone with Chrétien's guile now, eh?

Martin's problem is that people associate him with the commandite scandal as he is part of the Liberal old guard ...
The Liberals should have make a clean break and get themselves a new "new" leader ...
Clean the "Augias stables" !!!

Now, if he could only manage to get on track with those French lessons.

Well the Liberals got back in. 4 more years of scandal, greed & mismanagement here we come. 4 more to drive the armed forces into complete unsalvageable condition as well. Oh what a joyous day. [Sarcasm fully intended] Only saving grace (if possible) is historically minority govs are very short lived….. so then we face the cost $$$$$$$$$$$ of yet another election .

and so it goes..........
A man is lying by a road, badly injured from a fight.
Three members of Parliament approach him in turn.
The first is a Conservative. He looks at the man, scowls, and says, "How did you let yourself get into such a state? Get up and pull yourself together!"
The second is a New Democrat. In a gentle voice, she says, "How terrible that this has happened to you. Let me bandage your wound. Tell me who did this to you so I can give them anger management counselling."
The third is a Liberal. He drops to one knee and quietly asks the man, "Tell me. What did the two others say to you?"

The highlight of the election coverage for me was watching Lloyd Roberston trying to re-compose himself after being driven to laughter tears by John Crosbie in Newfoundland, enlisted as a cameo commentator.

Didn’t see that one, Riley, but John Crosbie always was good for a laugh. Weird political geek sense of humour, I guess, but the highlight for me was the half hour, 45 minutes, that the Marxist-Leninist Party candidate was leading in that seat in Mississauga. The prospect of seeing a M-L candidate elected anywhere would have been priceless, but right in the heart of Ontario??
As an NDP member, I have mixed feelings about this election. We doubled our share of the popular vote nationally – the only party that can say that – and we’ll hold the balance of power in the next Parliament. Here in Nova Scotia we likewise increased our share of the popular vote and displaced the Conservatives from their traditional status as the 2nd place party. Very respectable finishes even in what used to be bedrock Tory ridings like Central Nova and South Shore-St. Margaret’s where we got respectively, 28% and 26% of the vote. Particularly encouraging to see Alexis MacDonald place a strong second to Peter Mackay with over 10,000 votes in Central Nova.
The downside, of course, is even with our popular vote going up, we lost one seat in Nova Scotia and didn’t pick up as many seats nationally as we really should have been able to win. It’ll be very interesting to see what happens with proportional representation – if we’d have run last night’s election on such a system, the Liberals would have ended up with 113-114 seats to the Conservatives 91 and our 47-48.
Overall, I guess, if you’re an old pinko, you do have to take heart, though. The 'new' Conservatives have proven once again that hard core right-wing ideology is the kiss of death in Canadian politics. Harper will stomp his feet on issues like same-sex marriage, etc. etc. but Canadians have once again emphatically rejected Conservative ideas of how this nation should be run. That can only be to the good.
Meanwhile, the Liberals received some punishment for past indiscretions and, I’d also note, were forced to campaign to the left to salvage even a minority. The Liberals will probably get the Conservatives to support them on issues like missile defense but aside from that, with the NDP holding the balance of power not to mention the strong showing by the Bloc, this is going a fairly left-wing parliament.
Gotta mention the Green Party here, too. Though they’re rivals on the left end of the spectrum, their receiving 4.3% of the popular vote and easily surpassing the threshold for federal election funding has got to be a good thing for the nation’s political health in the long run.
It’ll be an interesting parliament but give it 16 – 18 months and we’ll all be back at this again. Awful lot of elections in this province in the last 5 years!!

Been swamped this week, so I haven't had a chance to really comment properly on post election. I still don't have much time, but let's say I'm getting a little tired of the Conservatives blaming other parties for being overly critical of what equates to a platform that most Canadians simply don't find terribly palatable.

Saw a columnist yesterday urging Stephen Harper to "do a Tony Blair" and purge the extreme elements of his party. Good advice from a political standpoint but the problem is Harper in large measure owes his position to the support of those extreme elements and, IMO, agrees with them on a lot of the fundamentals.
