Jesus - Have you heard TV On The Radio? It might be one you could go either way on, but I rank it near or at the top of this year's crop to date. No dog. Thanks for bringing these guys to my attention. Sufficiently intrigued by the amg review to check it out further.

Any of you listened to Dream Theatre's latest, "Train Of Thought" - ? It is by far one of the most accomplished, progressive heavy metal albums of all time.

I'm going to actually witness Dream Theater opening for YES on September 10th, this year, outside Denver, at the RED ROCKS venue.

Really enjoying the latest by struggling Aussie band, The Fauves.
These guys are great, awesome sense of humour to the music, intelligent lyrics, but not withoiut a sense of FUN. Honestly, they expose the Jets and the Vines of this world for the fakes they are. Real decent honest gritty rock with thought and just pure fun, without completely losing your brain at the door either.
Another band the world should be taking more notice of...
... just my humble opinion, though...

i want the velvet revolver album... haven't heard too much about the actual record, though. most of the comments i've heard are about the single.
random news...
R.E.M. album due around October. a lot of the songs are supposedly "politically fueled", but are still fun to listen to. michael stipe describes them as "chaotic". though he basically said the band can't help but make almost all of their songs happy.
the U2 album was supposed to come out this fall, before the tape was stolen. now, i have no clue when it's supposed to come out.
Pearl Jam seems to be coming in and out of the studio, from what i understand. i don't know if there's a chance of a new album anytime soon, but i really hope so. riot act's awesomeness is unprecedented, if you ask me.
there's a new strokes album in the works. ... not much else i can say about that.
dave grohl on the next foo fighters record (source: billboard):
"I think it's going to be a two-record set," he says. "It's going to be 10 acoustic songs and then 10 tracks that are just koo-koo, really heavy." He adds that the Foos already have a lot of acoustic material that the band has never recorded.

I mentioned early on (possibly) another board, but if you at ALL have a tendency toward metal, you HAVE to hear Grohl's new 'Probot'....it's basically him being a fan and inviting a pretty healthy group of his heroes to guest(tho as guest stars, not just any sort of sideman gig)on cover versions of some of their own bands' songs and on a couple of originals...there's Max Cavalera, Lemmy, King Diamond, 'Warrior' from Celtic Frost among others...
TV On The Radio is playing a free show at Coney Island this afternoon...festival thrown by the Village Voice. If I lived in New York, I'd be there.

10 for The Streets?! Ugh. Loathsome music. Like the ratings on the whole though. Must check out that Walkmen CD. I recommend to you the Razorlight album, Sir Patten, which I think has an Aug 17th US release.

Can't back the Streets either, myself... thought a track or two sounded good, but best album of 2004... that's a stretch!
My favourite on a personal level is "The Goodbye Girl" by relatively unknown Australian band, Epicure.
