2004 pt 2
Mission of Burma-Onoffon (8) The legends return and turn up the amps
Wilco-A Ghost is Born (10) The most rewarding listen of the year so far nearly as classic as Summerteeth and YHF ignore the nay-sayers
The Cure (9) (Cure fan) "Not just another Cure album" the best blend of light and darkness since Dis.
Morrissey-You are The Quarry (8) ah the return of the drama queen welcome back
Keane-Hopes and Fears (7) Nevermind the gimmick of no gutairs just enjoy songs like "She Has No Time and "Bedshapped"
Broken Social Scene- Beehives (7) Nice B-side collection
Junior Boys-Last Exit (9) I will continue to pimp this one the rest of the year Depeche Mode like vocals make catchy laid back lounge music they will break your girlfriend's heart

late response to thorn (if i haven't replied yet): yup, grohl's all over. people must like him i guess, to have him in so many projects... he seems like a really cool, funny, friendly guy. i just wish the foos would get back on track, though... one by one is alright, but they're capable of so much more.

there's now hope for a great album this year!
Veteran hard rock act Twisted Sister has re-recorded its iconic 1984 album, "Stay Hungry," and will release it Oct. 5 via Eagle Rock. In addition to such favorites as "We’re Not Gonna Take It," "I Wanna Rock" and "Burn in Hell," the new edition sports seven cuts that did not make the final cut for the original album.
"[These are] obscure songs from our club days but never officially recorded then," says guitarist Jay Jay French of the extra tracks. "On two of these songs, 'Never Say Never' and 'Blastin' Fast & Loud,' we used the original drum tracks that [drummer] A.J. [Pero] recorded. These songs were meant to be included on 'Stay Hungry' but were never finished."
"Even the cover art is now the way we wanted it," French adds. "It shows us as five starving musicians in street clothes in a tenement sitting at a table to represent where we came from, and the ghostly looking image of us in our stage clothes behind that shot represents what we imagined we could achieve."

My favourites of 2004 as it stands are still...
The Goodbye Girl - Epicure Embedded - Mark Seymour Everyone is Here - The Finn Brothers The Soundtrack to Your Escape - In Flames Dear Friends and Enemies - Big Heavy Stuff Good News for People who Love Bad News - Modest Mouse Split the Difference- Gomez A Song is a City - Eskimo Joe I - The Magnetic Fields The 7 Spheres - The Tea Party Talkie Walkie - Air
Likely to crash in and make big impression...
Isidore - (featuring the vocals of Steve Kilbey) The new REM album (anyone know the title yet?) Augie March's new album (if it happens this year) Second Storey - Art of Fighting ( still yet to buy this)
Not so sure...
New U2 album Bjork - Medulla. I am curious, and at least sheis doing something different and new, but I am not so sure I am going to love what she has done this time... heard a few tracks and I am bit... blah about it all.

Scotts, the REM record is Around the Sun. You can hear the fist single over at the official site: remhq.comI think the only true 2004 records I've got this year are the Wilco one, which I love, and the new Bjork, which is my first record from her and one that I'm yet to connect with. Seems to be more purposely distanced from the singles I've heard before, but her voice is pretty amazing. I'll give it time.

Ryo, one fine day (O glorious day! O happy day!) I'll have heard of one of your favourite bnds. Heh, I'll be happy to burn some Japanese music for you, if you're willing to trust me with your home address Not all of the bands on my list are Japanese though. Art Of Fighting are Austrailain, The Hepburns are Welsh, and Swan Dive hail from Nashville (yay, I used to live there!). Oh, and I was looking at maarts' list again, and I should probably add the Blonde Redhead to my list, although they're arguably Japanese (well okay, they're not).

Have to say I am LOVING this Isidore album (Steve Kilbey, Jeffrey Cain) Lovely music, quite atmospheric in alot of places, beautiful and shimmering most of the time.... features Kilbey's typically intricate and interesting word plays.
This just took a big step up in my 2004 top ten. :-)

Right, that's it. I'm going to check out that TV on the Radio album, since Ndy's list looks pretty tasty, and I keep hearing good things about this band.
Ryo - sure mate. Great. I'd be well interested. Only Japanese band I've heard is that one in Kill Bill vol 1. Unless we're countng James Iha.
