True, I'd rather listen to the Bootlegs then any of the studio albums. I listen to the studio albums more than the bootlegs....I don't know, I like the studio cuts better for the most part. There are a few exceptions, but more often than not, it's the studio versions for me. I think with ablums especially like No Code and Binaural it's better to hear the studio versions. Those are both kinda moody albums, and I think some of the vibe is lost live. On the other hand, I think all of the Ten songs sound better live, and for the most part I like the live versions of most Vs., Vitalogy, and Avocado songs better as well. I think Yield is better in the studio b/c I like the way Jack Irons drums better than Matt Cameron. I have yet to hear live versions of songs like "All Those Yesterdays", "Brain of J", "Faithful", and "In Hiding" that I like better than the studio cuts.

I don't understand why everybody loves Jack Irons so much. Jack Irons just played a lot of tom patterns, Matt Cameron is ten times the drummer he is. I don't think Yield's a very good album anyway, maybe that's where we differ. To each his own I suppose...now, someone will tell us that Yield is their favorite album...

I think Matt is a much better drummer than Jack, no doubt. However, I think Jack's style fit better with Pearl Jam.
Live Matt is the best drummer for PJ though b/c he's such a diesel horse. I don't think Jack would be able to keep up and have the stanima Matt does.
As for Yield, I think there are some real quality songs on there, especially "All Those Yesterday's", but I don't think it's Pearl Jam's best.

I can't think of anywhere on records where he's remotely wanky. Too restrained actually, if you ask me. I guess if you're not into his style, then some of the stuff he does live could come across that way, but I think it adds a lot to the show, and is therefore not wanky. And there's so much more to them than just his guitar playing. Hell, a lot of their songs are more piano-based than guitar-based anyway (not to mention the ones on their last album that are mostly marimba). He's one of the best songwriters of the last 10 years or so too, IMO. Yeah, I don't really think of Mr. White as a wanker either....I'd agree that he is one of the better songwriters of the past decade, I just wish he had a desent drummer.....

IIRC, Yield's sky's favorite PJ album. ... Don't ask me how I know that.
May the album factions and war commence!
I'll admit that Yield's one of my least favorite PJ records (though it has some of my favorite tracks... Given to Fly, No Way, In Hiding... I seriously have to be in the right mood to be cool with Pilate), but the pure awesomeness that is No Code earns my love for Jack and PJ in general. C'mon, I love the st... but only Come Back can hold its own against Present Tense and Off He Goes. Dig those metaphors, damnit!

Coming soon: The Live Albums project. Live versions of every studio album plus and extra disc of Lost Dogish B-sides and covers. I'll YSI Live Ten sometime over the weekend but since the whole thing's like 12 CDs I'll only do two or so a week.

I like how I can come back after 2 years and see that nothing has changed.
I think I will try to pick up the new PJ album this weekend, I trust the collective judgment of this board that it is at least worth hearing. I realized just how many PJ albums I have total recently while beginning phase 1 of the moving process. More than any other band by far, at least I think. I started losing track of things like that when I got new cd storage case that can hold over 400 cds and never actually put the cds on the shelves. two years agoBut anyway, the singles I’ve heard I’ve really liked and long as it isn’t as uneven as Riot Act I shouldn’t be disappointed. Plus I'm an admitted completionist.
I have take Matt over Jack in the drumming debate. Jack does have some really cool patterns like someone noted earlier, but Matt can play like a badass motherfucker. Then again, I also grew up on Soundgarden and have appreciated his drumming style for years.

IIRC, Yield's sky's favorite PJ album. ... Don't ask me how I know that. You have a much better memory than I do and mine is pretty damn good. That’s going back at least 4+ years ago, possibly longer. At one time Yield was a sentimental favorite, but No Code has since edged it out. I appreciate more of what they did on that album now then I did at 14. I forgot to add Wolf Parade to that earlier list, Apologies to the Queen Mary has been on heavy rotation for awhile. Actually had to go on the wagon with S-K for a few weeks this summer because the day I decided to finally purchase a ticket for the Philly show was the day they announced the break up. $15 tickets were going for $400 on e-Bay, I was so disappointed. It would have been a lot worse if I hadn’t seen them the previous summer and it was a great show. Ken, the best stuff is the live stuff. If you haven’t seen them live then check out Under Blackpool Lights. The songs on the self-titled album that suffer from poor production sound incredible live. Also you will probably chuckle when Jack starts pleading “please don‘t take my man” while covering “Jolene“. The red and black pants are the icing on the cake. Proud, I wasn’t completely sold on WS when White Blood Cells came out but then I got De Stijl and then Elephant and I realized they weren’t part of a fad. They have gimmicks sure, but the ‘new garage’ trend has been over for awhile and they’re still among the most respected of the bands of the ‘00s. Like whatever happened to the Hives? I'm so tired I forgot the point I was going make in the last post. There's a good chance all of this doesn't make any sense since I've been rambling.

It may lack some of the top tier qualities of No Code and Vitalogy, but overall it's very consistent.

Well, I dunno about the White Stripes, but something about Pearl Jam... I need to see them before I die or they break up for one reason and one reason only, and that's one song only...
Comatose. My God, did that fill me with early grunge nostalgia the first few times I've heard it. If Vedder can perform it live without choking on his wine, I need to witness it at least once, or I'm an awful person.

You've never seen Pearl Jam live? Wow....you should definitely check 'em out before you kick the bucket and/or they break up. Something tells me that they have one more album in them, and maybe Lost Dogs Volume 2...after that I can't shake the feeling that PJ will go on a indefinite hiatus. I think Ed Vedd is ready to just chill, surf, and be a dad. Then again, if a republican is elected president in '08 Vedder will be pissed off, and he writes his best when he's pissed about something.
